DFW: Kissing Girls

Writers: Eimi, Paula
Date Posted: 16th June 2017

Characters: Kaiafel, Aileyan
Description: Kaiafel goes to Aileyan for a grown-up talk...
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 12, day 13 of Turn 8

Kaiafel's brow was knit into the thoughtful expression that looked so much like his father's. Letting out a heavy sigh, he leaned his arms against the rail of the feeding pen next to the greenrider waiting for her lifemate to make her choice.

"Aileyan... Do you ever kiss boys?" he asked by way of greeting,.

"Now and then, yes" Aileyan replied, "And good day to you too, Kaiafel," she added with a grin. She liked the boy and didn't blame him for his father's action. After all, he had been left behind too.

"Hi," he mumbled, realizing he had forgotten any basic greeting. But exchanging pleasantries was not why he found her this time. "Do you ever just grab a boy and kiss him for no reason?"

"Ah, not that often," Aileyan replied, feeling very uncomfortable. "Why do you ask such thing?"

Kaiafel let out another long sigh, resting his chin atop his arms. "I was walking out of Harper Classes yesterday, and I passed the other classroom, and this girl named Rafta walked out and grabbed my hand and pulled me into the room with her. And then she... well..." He cleared his throat, also a little unsettled at the memory, and in telling someone out loud. "She kissed me. On the lips."

"That means she likes you, What did you do? Go: Ick?" Aileyan asked out of curiosity. This Rafta had to be early bloomer.

He lifted his shoulders in a shrug. "I just stood there and let her kiss me. I didn't know what else _to_ do."

"Well, the usual options is either kissing her back or push her away," Aileyan tried very hard not to laugh when she imagined that scene. Instead she looked Kjarliheth taking down a fat wherry-buck. Why did she always have these kind of discussions with Kaiafel?

Kaiafel's nose scrunched. "I'm not sure I wanted to kiss her." And the same time, he didn't want to push her away, either.

"Tough situation," Aileyan symphatized. Shards, why he asked these things from her? She wasn't his mother or fostermother and she was probably the worst person to give advice in romance. Just look what a shamble her own life was!

"Yeah," he said, feeling the weight of his troubles. "I couldn't talk to her after that. It just feels weird. Darik told me I should just keep kissing her until it didn't, but I don't know..."

"Kissing someone you really don't like only leads to trouble," Aileyan said. **Look who's talking! Take your own advice."

"Yeah, that's true," Kaiafel nodded, as if he already knew. "I didn't even know she _wanted_ to kiss me. If I did I wouldn't have walked past that room. Or I would have walked faster. Or told her I was busy."

"That would have been the gentlemanny thing to do," Aileyan said with soft laugh and reached out to ruffle his hair. She couldn't resist it, it was so much like his father's. She firmly pushed away any thoughts about U'kaiah.

The boy was used to people playing with his curly mop, and liked the affection from the greenrider. They had been comfortable for Turns, after all. "Yeah, that's why I would do it that way. Like a gentleman." At least his father always told him to behave like one. It's what his Da would do. "But how do you talk to someone after they kiss you like it never happened?"

Aileyan sighed. "Well, you really can't. Something did happen, so there's no going back."

"I guess so." And there in lie his problem. "I could probably kiss her again and see if I like it. Darik says that he had to kiss a couple girls before he found one he liked kissing. Maybe I just need practice."

"Or maybe you should just wait few more Turns before you start kissing girls," Aileyan's tone was bit more sharper than she meant it to be. This Darik sounded like a trouble. She better tip Kaiafel's mother.

Her tone definitely caught Kaiafel off guard. He turned to look at her. Was she angry at him for some reason? Did he do something wrong? "But... the other boys are kissing girls..." he said, a little quieter than before.

"You're not even old enough to Stand and Impress, you have no need to rush to kiss girls. Enjoy being a child for a little longer yet," Aileyan said with softer voice.

"I guess," he shrugged, relieved that he was not in trouble for something. "But what if Rafta wants to kiss me again?"

"Just tell her you don't want to," Aileyan said. "That you're not ready." Yes, she really should talk with Felke.

"Yeah," said, again with a tone of one who knew a whole lot more than he actually did. Growing up was just so sharding hard sometimes...
