Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 9, day 16 of Turn 8
While cleaning up around the weyr, Jeyme had come across a little jacket that she knew did not belong to Dheymin, mostly because it was too big and embroidered with flowers. That left only one option, Kielya, D'hol's daughter with Cyradis. She would have been the only other child that might be in their weyr.
Jeyme picked up the article of clothing and ran her fingers over the embroidery. **The daughter of D'hol's true love.** She thought as she draped it over the back of the couch and finished cleaning up, putting away her laundry and D'hol's.
Even as she worked her eye kept catching on the jacket, an ever present reminder of the thorn that continued to be in her relationship with her weyrmate. Not that she blamed Kielya, but the child just served to be one more anchor between D'hol and Cyradis.
Shutting the final drawer on the wardrobe with a little more force than intended, Jeyme straightened, grabbed the jacket and walked to Cyradis and K'deren's weyr. Why give D'hol one more excuse to see Cyradis when she could just take the jacket back herself?
With the jacket bunched in one hand, Jeyme knocked on the door and waited for either Cyradis or K'deren to answer.
"Just a moment!" K'deren put down the story he'd been reading to his very sleepy son, in the hope that the child would eventually drop off for the nap he so clearly needed. Getting up, he went to the door and opened it.
"What can I do for you?" he asked pleasantly.
Jeyme held up the jacket in her hand, "Kielya left this at our place."
"Ahh," K'deren gestured for her to come in. "She was looking for that, Deralie has one similar, but hers doesn't fit Kielya."
The greenrider followed K'deren inside, "With the cooler weather we've been having I thought she might need it."
"She probably will, and she'd be letting us all know she wanted it." K'deren reached out to take the jacket. "I'm betting there'll be other things of hers that end up with you and D'hol. She's at that age where she doesn't always think about where she should keep her things."
Jeyme nodded and then blurted out, "Did you know that they went on a picnic together?"
"He's her father," K'deren said after a moment. "She needs to get to know him."
She shook her head, "I know that, but it wasn't just D'hol and Kieyla, Cyradis was there too."
K'deren thought for a moment, gesturing to the sofa. Knowing that Jeyme wasn't weyrbred, and that she might not understand exactly how people made their families work in a weyr. "She did mention something about it. Kids need to see their parents, even if they aren't a couple." He paused, trying to gather his thoughts. "My father had children as a result of flights, and he took the time to see them with their mothers. And my elder ones, Cyradis and I worked it out."
Jeyme sat as the brownrider indicated, trying to understand the Weyr point of view. "But don't you ever worry about them spending time together?" Did he really have so much faith in Cyradis as to think her impenetrable to temptation?
"You have to keep talking to your weyrmate. If you have worries, tell him," K'deren advised. "It isn't easy here, flights happen, children can be a consequence, and those children deserve parents who care about them, even if they have problems with each other."
"You should know talking to D'hol is easier said than done." She chuckled without mirth. Their talks almost never ended well, and so Jeyme tended to avoid them. **What does that say about our relationship?** She mused.
"I'd agree with you there," D'hol didn't seem the easiest person to get along with, but everyone was different, and perhaps in his own weyr, when the man was more relaxed with his family he was different. "But keep trying, we all need to make sure that our children, all of them are happy."
Jeyme inwardly sighed, seeing that she was going to get nowhere with K'deren. Couldn't D'hol spend time with Kieyla without Cyradis? There was no requirement that both of them be present.
"I'll keep that in mind," she told the brownrider. Standing she smiled at the small child K'deren was obviously trying to woo into sleeping. "I'll get out of your hair, someone looks ready for a nap."
"He is, and if he doesn't sleep now, we'll all know about it later."
