Dream a Little Deeper

Description: Ashuli shares a dream with L'exan.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 9, day 7 of Turn 8

Ashuli had so many pretty shells that she had to carry them in a large net-bag, and more and more kept appearing as she ran across the surface of the clear, shallow water.

"Don't go out too far, sugarpie!" L'exan called from the shore, where he was taking off Larzeth's harness.

"Okay, Papa!" Ashuli replied, waving to show she'd heard, and kept running, grabbing shell after shell. On spying a particularly pretty one, she rushed for it-

And her foot plunged through the water, sending her tumbling end over end into the depths, and she sank so rapidly there was no time to even scream as the shells scattered about her in the water. She fell and fell, down toward where the sea-monsters lived, and she just knew they were going to eat her up and there was nothing she could do, AND OH ANCIENTS ONE WAS COMING AT HER FROM BELOW AND IT WAS BLUE AND HAD WINGS-

And it was Larzeth, swimming up from the blackness, and her papa was riding him, and his strong arms caught and held her to his broad chest as Larzeth burst from the water with a bellow, winging back to the beach. Ashuli clung to her papa, and he patted her on the back to help her expel water from her stomach and lungs. "Where'd you come from?" she coughed.

"When you went under, we went between as deep as we could so we could come up for you," L'exan explained.

Ashuli coughed once more and hugged him tight. "I was really scared."

"I know." L'exan kissed her on the top of her head, like he did every time she'd been particularly good, or when she needed comfort. "You don't have to be, though. I'll always getcha when you need me."

L'exan laughed uproariously, slapping his thigh in vast amusement, and Larzeth made a noise almost that sounded like a hoot of laughter. "Oh- Oh, did you hear that, Lightning Lad? Even in her dreams, I act exactly the way I would," the bluerider managed to say.

}:That _is_ the kind of risky maneuver you would convince me to pull if someone was in danger,:{ Larzeth agreed.

Ashuli peered around the blue's chest, which she was helping her dad scrub, and grinned at him. "And when we landed, you gave me the prettiest shell in the world, and I made it into a necklace," she finished. "It was the most exciting dream _ever_."
