Like a Fish In Water

Characters: Sh'dori, G'dori, A'be, C'niv
Description: Ailbe's origin still remains a mystery but at least he's adjusting well to Weyr-life.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 7, day 17 of Turn 8

Ailbe rolled out from the bed furs and rose to sit at the edge of the bed.

"Everything alright?" The blond man lounging in the bed asked and stretched languidly.

"Yes, fine, I should probably get back before lights out. If they do a headcount and find me missing, I might get into trouble," Ailbe replied.

C'niv made a low chuckle. "This is Weyr, hon. As long as you show up in time for your lessons and chores, no one cares where you been or what you've done. Or with whom," he gave Ailbe a naughty grin.

"It's all very different than back home," Ailbe sighed. Back home, he wouldn't have been able to do anything like _this_.

"Culture shock?" The greenrider made a sympathetic noise and got up to sit next to him.

"A bit," Ailbe admitted. The biggest shock was, however, how easily he had gone off with C'niv when the greenrider started to make advances towards him. Or how attracted he was to the greenrider. Or how he didn't even hesitate to bed him. First time in his life Ailbe actually felt he belonged. He belonged to the Weyr. As his recent activities with C'niv proved. If only he knew who he was.

"Nope, he is not mine. Nor is his mother," Sh'dori vehemently denied having anything to do with Ailbe's birth. "None of my children was born in a Hold and none was with a Hold woman. Some may have moved to Holds since then, but they are all Weyrborn," the brownrider looked Ailbe curiously.

"I was born in that very same Hold I was Searched from and I grew up there. My grandparents moved to Topaz Sea Hold after grandpa retired," Ailbe said. No, he was not weyrbred.

"So, he's not related at all?" Ged asked hopefully. Somehow his hand had ended up resting on top of Ailbe's. The new candidate resisted the urge to pull away from him.

"I didn't say that, just that he is not my offspring. I have siblings, you know, and so does my mother and my father too. And they are equally prolific bunch. So he might be from the different branch of the family tree," Sh'dori said and drank from his klah mug. "Tracing all of them to find out which branch leads to him might take awhile," he warned.

"Being cousins wouldn't be so bad, would it? It's alright to be with your cousin, right?" G'dori asked hopefully.

He was obviously attracted to Ailbe. Ailbe was not attracted to him however. He pulled his hand free on pretense of tearing a piece off from his bread. Speaking of attraction… His gaze kept going back to C'niv who also sat with them. The blond searchrider met Ailbe's gaze and Ailbe felt his heart skip a beat. He could sense mutual interest.

"Could you please stop drooling at C'niv and listen?" G'dori sounded sulky and tad bit jealous.

"We are not going to solve this puzzle today. I have drills starting in a half a candlemark and I believe you are expected at the dragon infirmary, Ged," Sh'dori remarked.

C'niv gently turned Ailbe's face to face him and kissed him. To the lips. Ailbe felt his cheeks get flushed. This kind of affection was something he needed to get used to. Blushing totally ruined his badass act. Tough guys didn't get rosy cheeked like some demure hold maid.

"This was your first time?" C'niv asked after breaking off the kiss.

"Yes. You can tell?" Ailbe admitted after he could breath and speak again. In his old home people were expected to wait until they were married before having sex and no one on his home Hold had ever woken up his interest enough to even try.

"You were bit clumsy. Don't worry, you'll get hang of it and I am honoured to be your first partner. I am also good teacher if you want to stay over night. My bed is far more comfortable than the bunks they give to candidates."

It was tempting, far too tempting.
