Description: Jerric plays the gitar for Iliana and ends up with a kiss and a mistake
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 7 of Turn 3
Illiana and Jerric sat under a big tree near the Weyrlake, just as they had two sevendays ago together. Already they were spending a lot more time together and it had become a little tradition of theirs to spend their restdays together. It wasn't as if they really had anyone else anyways.
Today was cloudy and a bit cooler. The previous restday had been rainy so they hadn't really been able to go outside much at all. In fact, it had been raining a lot lately. Jerric sat with his back against the tree strumming his gitar. This time Jerric had brought a blanket with them so as to avoid unnecessarily getting dirty. Besides, it was just more comfortable.
Finishing his song, he looked at Illiana and frowned. "That one wasn't very good, was it?"
The young woman was still humming along with the song and took a moment for her to notice that Jerric had stopped playing. "Oh I liked that one, I think it is my new favorite!" She said as she stretched and leaned up against the trees trunk. "Think you could ever teach me to play?" She asked as she looked down at the gitar.
"Yeah, I guess I could. I'm not a very teacher though," he warned.
Immediately afterwards, he sort of regretted having just given her permission to hold the gitar he had had for so many turns that his father had made him but he guessed as long as he was here it would be all right. "Just promise me you will be really careful though?" he asked. It was understood that she would agree so he pulled the strap over his head and put it carefully over Illiana. It took him a moment to think because putting it on someone else was the opposite of putting on yourself. Finally, he placed the gitar on her lap.
"Are you sure you don't mind me using this one?" Illiana asked after seeing how hesitant Jerric was. "I'm sure we can find an old gitar kicking around in the caverns that we could borrow." She suggested, she knew how hard it was to hand something over that belonged to a close family member. She'd never had a chance to meet her mother but when she was Searched she found it really hard to leave some things behind that belonged to her mother. Things that her mother touched many turns before. "But the sound wouldn't be nearly as good," Jerric explained. "My father made this one and I have had for turns." He got up and sat behind her, leaning over her. He took her hands and placed them in the correct positions. "Your hands are a bit small so it might be hard to reach some of the notes," he told her. He then began to show her some of the different notes.
Illiana felt her face get a little red when Jerric touched her hand but tried to shake it off and focused on what he was teaching her. He was right it was a bit difficult to reach the strings but she sorta managed, even though she had to stretch her fingers in odd positions. "So what note is this?" She asked again as she strummed the new note over, trying to get it to sound anything like how Jerric's playing.
"A C, sort of," he said with a laugh. It was a bit twangy. He then demonstrated the correct way to pluck the string. Hopefully that would give her a better sound. "Here, this will be easy to learn because you won't have to change any of the notes." Jerric then plucked the first, third and forth string to create a little tune. "Now you play."
Biting her lower lip she concentrated on what Jerric had just shown her, and managed to get the notes. Okay so it didn't sound anything like Jerric's playing, and most people would probably prefer to listen to a feline in heat rather than hear what Illiana just played. "I don't think I'll ever get it." She pouted.
Jerric moved from behind and sat down beside her. "It takes time. I will give you more lessons later until you can play some songs to impress your friends, or a dragon perhaps," Jerric said with a small smile. He took the gitar back and set it down. Since he had met a new Candidate the other day, his mind had been busy. Jerric decided to confide in Illiana about what he had said. "The other day I met this boy, named Presayden. He couldn't have been much older than me. He kept calling me Jerk instead of Jerric. He also made fun of me because I'm a virgin."
"Well I think that guy is a jerk for calling you that, obviously he was trying to be funny." Then when Illiana registered the second part to what Jerric said she went very, very red in the face. She sat there for a long moment with her mouth open, she gave herself a mental shrug and looked up at the sky in thought, trying to figure out what to say next.
Jerric wrung his hands together for a moment. "Well, I don't mind being a virgin, it's not that bad, I guess... Are you?" he asked. The two had become good friends over the past few sevendays. Hopefully they were as good of friends as he thought.
Illiana nodded. "Yeah, my brothers made sure of that," she waved her arms, "but not like I really had the desire to go out and bed someone." She explained hastily. "I don't know, my father always raised me to consider it to be a special union of sorts between two people who really care about one another." She shrugged her shoulders. "But that could have been his way to try to make me wait as long as possible, but either way I like what he said it should be."
"Yeah, that does sound reasonable. I like it too. I don't think my mother ever talked to me about that. She taught me to be very respectful to women but she never quite told me why," Jerric said. Of course, he was joking in the last part. He knew that sex wasn't the only reason a man was polite to a woman. "Have you ever been intimate with anyone to a lesser extent?" he asked.
She shook her head 'no', red hair falling over her shoulders. "Nothing even close, haven't even had my first kiss." She admitted shyly.
"That makes us both," Jerric said, suddenly feeling a bit awkward. Was she trying to suggest something. **No, obviously not you idiot. You're just friends,** he thought, becoming very nervous. He had to make some sort of recovery so he tried to be funny. "I might give you one but your brothers would slit my throat," he said.
Illiana chuckled. "Ah but they aren't around now are they." She then shut her mouth very tight, she couldn't believe that she had just said that. She liked Jerric, a lot actually, she had come to that conclusion the other night. So she wouldn't object to him kissing her that was for sure, but at the same time she wouldn't know how to go about it.
Great. That was definite woman language for 'Kiss me.' He tried devastatingly hard to hide his timidness. He could feel his face getting red and his stomach turning into knots. Not wanting to risk another moments which could possibly complicate the situation. He looked at her quickly, shut his eyes and leaned in, placing his lips on hers. It was a surprise that he didn't miss.
Illiana's eyes were open and she watched him lean in closer and closer, then their lips connected. She then quickly closed her eyes, not wanting to be rude (after all anytime she'd seen anyone kiss they'd close their eyes). She didn't quite know what to do but just did what felt right, she turned her head to the side a little so they weren't bumping noses and reached a shaky hand up to touch Jerric's chin.
As soon as Illiana responded (and it wasn't a slap in the face mind you), Jerric began to feel a little more at ease. He kissed her back once more before finally pulling away a bit sadly. He had enjoyed the kiss but didn't want to overdo it. His eyes opened and half smiled, but still blushed. He was about to open his mouth to say something but he began to feel sick and looked away.
"What? What is wrong?" Illiana asked, with a worried tone, she had opened her eyes after savoring the kiss a bit longer and saw that poor Jerric wasn't looking all that good.
"It's not you, I promise. I just don't feel well all of a sudden..." Jerric paused. He wearily stood up and leaned against the tree. By getting sick, he was becoming more embarrassed which in turn, made him feel worse. It was a vicious cycle. "I think I should to go..." he looked at her apologetically.
Illiana opened and closed her mouth (much like a fish out of water) and finally nodded her head when she couldn't get any words out.
"I'm really really sorry about this," Jerric mumbled. He picked up his gitar, quickly pulled the strap over his head and walked off without another word. He didn't know why this sickness had suddenly overcome him but he had a very bad feeling about it. He would have to explain everything to Illiana later. What a dimglow he had made himself out to be!
The Candidate nodded her pretty little head again, and once Jerric was out of sight she got up, folded up the blanket they were sitting on and did one of the things that she enjoyed doing the most. Running. She just ran and ran until she couldn't run anymore, she didn't cry like most girls, she'd just find something else to keep her mind off stuff.
