Characters: A'kua, G'nir
Description: Zeiranth asks Nirreth for advice.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 1 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Firelloa (ONPC)
The young bronze was feeling pensive this evening, but he wasn't sure why. A'kua was certainly in a good mood, and so was Firelloa; the way they were performing together in the weyr was proof. Thus, Zeiranth was uncertain as to why he was upset. He turned his head to look into the weyr, and remembered what was bothering him when he saw his lifemate's forearm: It was still bandaged from the disastrous flaming class, though the healers had said the gauze could come off soon.
Zeiranth couldn't truly remember what had caused the wound, but he knew it was his fault. It wasn't the first time he had hurt his rider, either, even though he couldn't remember why he thought that. But it was enough to make Zeiranth realize he had been pretty irresponsible, and if it happened a third time, it could be even worse. There had to be a way to fix that; a way that would stick even though he wouldn't properly recall it three days later. And he thought he knew the dragon to ask about it. }:Nirreth? Are you busy?:{
It was possible; Thread had fallen earlier that day, so Nirreth might be tired or otherwise preoccupied. But it didn't hurt to ask.
}: I have always time for you, :{ Nirreth replied. Advising weyrling dragonets was his job now.
}:Thank you,:{ the younger bronze replied. }:Can you tell me how to be more responsible? I know I've hurt A'kua, but I can't remember how. I don't want to do that again.:{
}: You are supposed to protect your rider, not hurt him,:{ Nirreth said, although he couldn't remember the incident either. He considered the question before answering. }: You have to be more careful, consider before acting and not to do anything rash.:{
Sensible advice, but now came the root of the problem: }:How can I remember to do that when we don't remember much?:{ Zeiranth asked. }:Should I ask A'kua to help me? It's easier to remember things if he helps me do it.:{
}: That's why we have them, so they can remember things for us, :{ Nirreth replied. Of course, his rider had other functions too, like washing and oiling his hide.
}: You let your rider to know what you're about to do and he will tell you if it's good idea or not. :{
}:I'll do my best to build that habit,:{ Zeiranth vowed. }:I don't want anything to happen to my rider. He's the only one I have.:{
}: Yes, you do that. They are ours to protect, :{ Nirreth replied sagely. The bronze had to admit he enjoyed this: giving advice for the younger ones.
Zeiranth turned his head to look into the weyr. A'kua had set his gitar aside to let Firelloa seat herself on the bed next to him; the performance had turned into a chat. **Mine to protect,** he thought, and felt a stirring of something. It was similar to the feelings A'kua had when he thought about possible threats toward people he cared for. For some reason, it made Zeiranth feel even more like a bronze, and he sat up a little straighter. }:Thank you, Nirreth,:{ he said gravely.
}: You are welcome, :{ Nirreth replied with friendly tone.
}:Have a good evening, you and your rider,:{ Zeiranth said, and resolved to speak to his own once Firelloa had departed to her own living space. It was a chat that was overdue, but the idea of being more responsible wasn't scary. In fact, Zeiranth rather liked it.
}: Have good evening, we'll see tomorrow, :{ Nirreth replied and yawned. He checked his rider: busy doing some hidework.
