Characters: A'kades, Lenala
Description: A'kades invites Lenala to leave the Weyr for a bit.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 6, day 12 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Rhosyn, Lanniya
The last two months had been very stressful on the Weyr, between the
hurricane, the Weyrleadership change, and the Lanniya incident. Rhosyn
seemed to be leaning heavily on Lenala, since Lanniya had revealed
herself to be unreliable. (And how had he missed the clear flaw in her
character?)
A'kades could use a break from the mess. More, he wanted to give
Lenala one. He still had concerns about her recovery. So, early on a
restday morning, he had Volaith reach out to Vilarth.
}:My rider would like to speak with yours,:{ the bronze said. On his
own initiative, he added, }:I think he wants to take her somewhere,:{
Lenala was so in need of break from routine that she didn't hesitate
to agree when Vilarth relayed the message. Then she started to fidget
with her looks and if she should change before he came and to what.
}: What's wrong with your current ones? :{ Vilarth wondered. Lenala
was wearing light, sleeveless tunic, tight knee-lenght breeches and
sandals.
**They've hardly a Lady's clothes,** she replied. She had dressed for
work. Still, they were form-fitting in away that turned men to look
her second time.
It took a little longer than A'kades wanted to make his way to
Lenala's weyr. He had been waylaid by a weyrling who had a question,
and then he'd had to stop by his own weyr to pick up a surprise. He
knocked on her door, keeping one hand behind his back to conceal the
flowers
"Hello, A'kades," Lenala greeted and let him. She felt more nervous
than she should, considering all they had gone thru.
"Lenala, you look lovely today." On impulse, he took her hand and
kissed it. "I was wondering if you wanted to steal away with me for a
bit?"
"I'm happy to be stealen away," Lenala replied with a pleased smile.
"Should I change clothes for it?" she asked. While waiting for him to
show up, she had spread several dresses on to her bed, unable to
decide between them.
"I think so," he said, gesturing at himself. The normally staid
bronzerider was wearing a casual tunic and pants for once. "I hadn't
quite decided where we should go, but I just wanted to get out for a
bit. Spend some time with you."
They had still been seeing each other since the unfortunate event, but
had been a little more slow than before. And there had been enough
work-related upheavals to complicate things. A'kades found he missed
spending time with Lenala when they didn't have to think about the
Weyr.
"As long as there are no other goldriders around," Lenala said with a
low voice. With all the drama around here later, she had not had
anytime for herself.
"There are plenty of places where that could be arranged. Opal Cove
Hold, or one of the Halls - any shopping you've been wanting to do?"
"There's nothing particular I _need_ but I've been itching to check
the smith's hall wares. There are some amazing jewelsmiths there. But
Garnet Valley is so cold right now," Lenala replied and wrinkled her
nose with the mention of cold.
"Jade Harbor's a trading port, maybe they would have something?" he
suggested.
"It's a worth a try," Lenala replied.
"Then let's go. The weather will be lovely enough there for a dress," he
said.
"Yes," she nodded. Now that she know where she was going, she went to
pick herself a jade green dress. "Help yourself some wine, the pitcher
is on table. You know how long us women take to get ready."
"I don't mind at all," he said easily as he walked over to the table
to pour himself a glass. "I'm just happy to spend time out with you."
"I'm happy to spend time with you. Now excuse me," she pulled closed
the curtain that separated her sleeping chamber from rest of her weyr.
When she opened it again some time later, she was wearing that jade
green dress. She looked lovely.
"Looks good enough to show off in public?" she asked and playfully
twirled around.
"You'll stun everyone who sees you," he said.
"That's the idea," she said.
"I assume you'll want to take Vilarth?" Two dragons would attract more
attention than one, but A'kades suspected that both gold and rider
felt more secure together.
"Yes, she wants to stretch her wings too," Lenala replied.
"And Jade Harbour's a good place for it." He offered her his arm
Lenala nodded. "Shall we go then?" One of the mistakes she had made with
M'galec had been rushing into weyrmating with him. This time things were
different. Perhaps A'kades was the _right_ one.
