The Seamark (Fight Pt 1)

Writers: Yvonne
Date Posted: 12th February 2016

Characters: Taril
Description: An opportunity is sailing into Sunstone Seahold.
Location: Sunstone Seahold
Date: month 4, day 8 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Eirock, Raghad, Humari (not by name)

The Harbourmaster's manifest went to the Harbourmaster first, Steward Eirock second, and to Taril third. It contained a list of the ships expected to sail into Sunstone Seahold, as well as what they were carrying and whether or not they were bringing goods or if it was just a resupply stop along their journey. The manifest was updated by flit and drums as schedules changed to accommodate wind and tide - and the occasional mid-ocean mishap.

Taril sat in his office with the door open to let in the mild sea air, his legs stretched out in front of him as he examined the updated list. The Peshywar was delayed by several days-- pity, since she was carrying a several casks of vinegar with his name on it. The Bluerider was on time, and there were several additional ships sailing in... Taril narrowed his eyes. The Seamark was coming back to Sunstone Seahold.

It had been about six months since she'd last visited. Or more importantly -- that her crew had visited. One sailor in particular.... Taril set down the manifest and reached for his pen and a scrap of hide.

To Captain Uriw,

Greetings and fair winds! I see that you are sailing to Sunstone Seahold again after a long absence, and I wish to be among the first to send my regards. I hope that your stay with us was pleasant in the utmost. I am proposing arranging similar entertainment when you dock with us again, should that be something that would please you and if Brilloc is still numbered among your crew. Compensation the same as last time-- a cut of the marks for Brilloc and some for you as well, to compensate you for any time down a crew member. Are you interested? My flit will stay aboard the Seamark to carry your reply back to me.

The merchant rolled the hide into a tight cylinder, tied it with a bit of string, and poked his flit with the end of his pen. "Wake up, you lazy thing," he told Dodger. The flit stretched, yawned, and delicately plucked the little package from Taril's fingertips. He chirped once, then took off and immediately popped /between/.

Then it was just a waiting game. Taril went back to the manifest to continue his review, then set it aside to begin to update his own list of goods going in and out of the Hold. In the back of his mind the flower spice still lingered. Although he'd sold a good quantity of it to Holder Raghad at Citrus Bay, there was still some leftover that needed a good (and discrete) home. The vinegar from the Peshywar would go straight to his own cothold at Red Tide Rocks, to pickle seaweed and greens for the winter ahead. **I wonder if flower spice holds up to pickling?** Taril wondered. He resolved to ask his wife when he saw her that evening.

About a half candlemark later Dodger returned with a letter from Captain Uriw. Taril fed his flit a scrap of dried fish skin as a treat, and Dodger curled up on his lap to gnaw at it while Taril read.

~*~

Dear Taril,

Brilloc is willing. See you next sevenday.

The merchant smiled. **A man of few words, is Uriw.**

Looked like he had a fight to organize.
