W'ser

The apprentice looked out at the weyrbowl and saw Talwynn coming with
her green so he ran to tell the dragonhealer she was on her way in for
her checkup. He knew she'd actually been working lately and it looked
good on them both.

"Sir," he said when he approached the dragonhealer. "Talwynn is coming
in with Riveth. Her color is looking pretty good," he smiled. He'd
wanted to impress the dragonhealer with how much he'd been learning
and paying attention to his Journeyman teachers.

"Yes, thank you, Aglin." W'ser said absently, not looking up at the
boy as he continued reading over the chart of a new patient that was
being housed with them after the last Threadfall. When he heard the
click of boot heels on the stone floor, W'ser looked up and set the
hide down.

"Talwynn, you are looking well." It was no secret that the greenrider
had started working with the Weyrlings, and the confidence it had
added showed.

Talwynn drew to a halt when she reached W'ser. She gave a nod of
greeting to the apprentice and then a deeper, more respectful one to
the Weyrdragonhealer. "Thank you, sir. The extra exercise is agreeing
with us, I think."

"I would agree. Let's take a look at Riveth then and see how she is
doing." W'ser said, motioning for Talwynn to join him as he headed
over to the green.

}:You are looking well, Riveth.:{ Branth was sunning nearby, but he
had raised his head to regard the green when she came in.

Riveth peered over at the brown. }:And you're very handsome. The sun
looks nice on your hide,:{ she flirted.

Talwynn followed him out. "We're still doing courier flights when
there's downtime in training... a few extra marks and a chance for her
to get exercise, since the weyrling dragonets sleep a lot."

"I never minded courier duty too much when Branth and I were in
Weyrlinghood. You meet some interesting people that way." W'ser
commented as he began his usual check up of Riveth.

}:How have you been, beautiful?:{ Branth questioned, flirting in return.

}:I have been well. I talked to someone at Amber Hills,:{ she shared.

"I met some skittish holders the other day. Sometimes you find the
good ones, sometimes they seem afraid."

"Really?" W'ser asked curiously as he ran his hands along Riveth's
flank. "Which Hold were you at?"

Riveth's words caught Branth's attention, }:You talked to someone
other than your rider at Amber Hills?:{

}:Yes, a woman who asked about my scars,:{ Riveth said. }:Are they
nice?:{ She couldn't see her own.

"Amber Hills. I like visiting Opal Cove because of how beautiful the
buildings there are."

"Ah, Amber Hills, it's an interesting place. They have a forward
thinking Lord and a bunch of backward thinking people behind him."
W'ser shook his head a little. "It is a beautiful place though."

Branth was momentarily distracted by her question, }:Oh, your scars
look quite fetching criss-crossed over your hide that way.:{ The brown
was lost on that train of thought for a moment before it occurred to
him the odd thing that Riveth had said. }:This human that you spoke to
was she a possible Candidate?:{

"Is Lord Zathris comparatively liberal, then?" Talwynn asked.

Riveth had to cast back to remember. It would have already been
forgotten if it wasn't for how strange it was. }:I don't know how to
find them, but I think not.:{

"You could say that." W'ser said absently, even as his eyes got that
telltale far away look dragonriders were known for having when they
communicated with their dragon.

"Did you know," he turned after a moment and fixed his eyes on
Talwynn, "that Riveth spoke with a woman at the Hold? Someone that was
apparently not a Candidate?"

Her eyes widened. "No, I didn't know. She's not a Search dragon. It
must have been..." The woman, the guard. The one who ran away. "I
thought she was afraid for the baby."

W'ser raised an eyebrow, "What baby?"

"There was a woman with a baby who I talked to for a moment before a
guard appeared and she ran away. I thought she ran away because she
thought we were going to steal her baby. You know, as if riders were
monsters."

There was a beat of silence before W'ser turned his eyes back on
Riveth, "That woman, she can hear dragons."
