Description: K'dee and Riven catch up after Vatonth catches Savith.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 1, day 13 of Turn 8
Riveenata figured out that rising was soon when she'd had trouble
keeping Savith from showing off for the male dragons. She was being a
little too fast and flashy during drills. Then she wasn't cooperating
with being cleaned, preferring to preen for a crowd. It was almost a
relief when two days later, during the evening meal, Savith shrilled a
challenge from the Weyrbowl ledge and took off into the sky.
A pack of males pursued her. Blues, browns, and even a couple bronzes
chased, some offering promises, others trying to prove themselves via
showmanship. Savith exulted in flying high and fast, dancing
tantalizingly in front of them.
}:Who wants to claim the prize?:{
}:I am worthy of you, sweet Savith,:{ the words came from Vatonth who had
made things clear he was with the pack.
Promising words from a nice dragon. Why hadn't she paid attention to him
before? Savith let the bronze get a little closer. Her wings were starting
to tire. }:Then claim me!:{
On the ground, the greenrider stepped towards the bronzerider, and
reaching out in invitation.
Feeling the pull of the flight, K'dee stepped close, reaching to her in
turn, even as Vatonth staked his claim in the skies. His wings beat fast, to
carry the both of them for as long as they needed.
Bronze and green, rider and rider, twined until they were all complete.
When the greenrider drifted back up, she yawned and stretched, enjoying the
lassitude of the post-flight haze. When she had the energy, then she looked
over to see how her partner was doing. Who she found there got a genuine
smile. "Hey there."
"Hello," he said, as he shifted awkwardly to get onto his good side. "That
was a good flight," K'dee said politely.
"Vatonth and you are great to wake up to." She saw him move and shifted
herself to give him a bit more space. "How're you doing?"
"Right now, or in general?" The bronzerider grinned, "this is the first
flight we've won in ages, so I think the immediate answer is pretty good."
His smile was really cute, she thought. "He's a handsome bronze and you
both did well."
The grin became a real smile. "Thank you," it wasn't too often that both he
and Vatonth go compliments from outside of his family, or the healers on his
progress, now he'd moved onto just the one crutch and a peg leg.
"How have you been feeling lately? Done or seen anything really
interesting?" She remembered he was a Starsmith. Maybe he'd seen
something good in the sky recently.
"Got something special coming up soon, Belior will be a little closer than
normal in a few days, if the skies are clear it'll be the brightest it has
been for ages, The night skies will look amazing," K'dee's enthusiasm bled
through into his voice and expression. "I'd love to be able to show you some
time."
"Do let us know, I would love to see it. That sounds very special."
"I hope it will be, but knowing my luck, the skies will fill with clouds and
it'll pour down."
"It can't rain everywhere on Pern. Belior can be seen from most places
in the South, right? So wouldn't there be somewhere else to go if it
rained here?"
The voice of rationality... "Yes, and of course Vatonth would take me up in
the skies any way to see it."
"It's marvelous where having a dragon can take you. I'm hoping to
explore a lot on my restdays, see places I've never been."
"I'm sure you'll get there, but I think I have watch duty at Sunstone next
restday. Clearly I was a very bad boy at some point," K'dee joked.
"Sunstone has a decent amount to watch, right? With the boats and the
trade? I know places like Garnet Valley are more isolated. Seems like
those would be boring." But Sunstone was newer and with fewer
amenities, she'd heard.
"Vatonth likes the sea there for some reason, he says it suits him, although
it could be the way the holders watching seemingly staring out to see before
he finds himself some fish."
"It's got a nice view," she agreed. "Hopefully it won't be too boring
for you. Maybe you'll hear some good gossip or spot one of those big
waves just in time to save everyone," she joked.
"You never know," was the reply.
"Regardless, you'll have to let me know what it's like out there, if
anything interesting happens." Her stomach grumbled at that moment,
reminding her of other body needs. "Oh...I didn't finish dinner. Do
you want to get something?"
"Now that sounds like a plan, I bet there is still some food left." His own
stomach was beginning to growl as well.
"Surely they'll feed poor hungry riders." She bent over to scoop up
their clothes. After all, they shouldn't show up half-naked.
