F'nix

F'nix

Felnix - no, F'nix, hadn't stopped smiling since Nisith chose him. A dragon, an _actual_ dragon had chosen him, from all the lads on the sands. He couldn't hardly believe it.

"Is this real?" he muttered to himself.

"Yes, it is," E'naer was offering him a bucket filled with meat. "Congratulations, dragonrider."

}: Welcome, little one, :{ Eillispeth was offering her own welcome to the new dragonet.

F'nix's heart leapt. Dragonrider. He'd waited so long to hear that. He grinned. "Thank you sir. It doesn't feel real."

}:Thank you. You're big:{ Nisith replied.

}: You'll grow, you'll be bigger than me, :{ Eillispeth replied to him with her mothernal tone.

"It takes getting used to," E'naer grinned. "Here, feed him," he pushed the bucket to F'nix. "What should we call you now? And your handsome blue?" he asked.

"F'nix sir," he replied. "And this is Nisith. Isn't he a nice shade?" He was gushing, but he didn't care.

"It is indeed," E'naer agreed. "Can I have quick look of him? No injuries from the Hatching?" He asked then. Sometimes the hatchlings tripped over and sprained a muscle or accidentally clawed each other. Serious injuries were very rare thought.

"Of course." F'nix was suddenly anxious. Not that he thought there was anything to worry about, but he'd been so wrapped up in impressing that he wasn't certain.

**Eillie..."E'naer didn't have to finish the thought. They done this countless times before.

}: Mine is going to touch you. It won't hurt. He just makes sure you're not hurt,:{ Eillispeth told to Nisith.

"You can give him the food meanwhile," E'naer reminded F'nix before crouching next to the blue. He quickly ran his hands over his body, tested the joints. "Nisith, can you spread your wings so I can take a look of them?" he asked.

F'nix fed Nisith while hovering and watching. Was this how mothers felt? It probably was. "Is he all right?" he asked anxiously.

"He's perfect," was E'naer's verdict. He didn't actually touch Nisith's wings, just gave them studious look. He really should be a master dragonhealer but he never seemed to have the time to push for those knots.

"I can't argue with that sir," F'nix grinned. "He's the most perfect dragon ever. I mean, I think he is." He flushed and smiled like a young man in love.

"I could argue and say that _Eillispeth_ is the most perfect dragon ever," E'naer grinned impishly. "He's perfect for you and that's all that matters. After he's eaten his fill, take him to the Weyrling barracks."

"Yes sir." F'nix decided not to contradict him. Nisith was perfect, that was that as far as he was concerned. "Thanks sir."

"That's why I'm here for," E'naer answered. "After you reach the barracks, he should doze off. If you don't have time to move your stuff from candidate barracks, don't worry about it. Drudges will move them for your before the Feast," he instructed.

"All right." F'nix would try to grab his stuff before anyone else did. He had sketches he didn't want damaged. "Thanks again sir."

"If you ran into problems or you have questions, don't hesitate to ask me or any one from Weyrling staff;" E'naer remined him and patted F'nix's shoulder. E'naer's attention was already shifting towards the next pair coming from the Sands.

"I will." F'nix's attention was locked on his hungry blue, whose eyes were whirling more slowly with each mouthful. It was hard not to be hypnotised by those eyes.
