Tavia
K'reyel

K'reyel

Tavia was hurrying down the corridor toward the bathing pools when she
spotted a rather nice looking rider she hadn't seen before and with
Riverbluff Knots.

"Hello there," she said with a friendly smile. "Can I help you find
something?

"If you could," he said after a moment scanning her knots. "Greenrider. I'm
looking for the stores."

"I'm Tavia," she smiled and held out her hand. "I know what you're
looking for and you just missed the turn back there." She pointed the
way he'd come. I did the same thing my first day here."

"K'reyel, newly arrived Wingsecond," he took the greenrider's hand. "I need
to get new knots made up, so that's why I was heading to the stores."

Every dragorider knew all the names of Weyrleaders both past and
present. So, one eyebrow lifted. "Well met K'reyel," she smiled.
"Welcome to Dragonsfall. I'm sure they will have just what you need."
Sometimes the weyrlings practiced making knots far above their station
and if they were good enough they were deposited in the stores to be
used by their newer riders. She was fairly sure scuttlebut would fill
her in on the transfer of such an important bronzerider from
Riverbluff.

"Do you have your Weyr yet?" She knew of a particularly fine one with
a beautiful bathing pool that had belonged to her former lover.

"Nothing settled yet, I need one with space for my weyrmate and room for
children to play in. My son has never seen snow before, so it needs to be
warm as well." K'reyel was pretty much thinking aloud, repeating what he'd
told the Headwoman, who had promised to get back to him in the next
candlemark with somewhere appropriate.

What small initial attraction she'd felt evaporated with a mental
sigh. Of course he was weyrmated with children. She smiled and nodded.
"I hope she gets back to you soon. My son's father had one that would
fulfill all those needs so if she offer's you U'kaiah's Weyr I'd jump
on it if I were you." She had no doubt the bronzeriders knew each
other as there were so few of them about. But she had no clue about
any animosity between these two particularly.

"How many children do you have?"

"Two girls and a boy."

"Oh nice," she smiled. "I only have the one son. Is your weyrmate a rider?"

"She's a harper, Senior Journeyman and a brilliant teacher." It was the
truth, the teaching harpers at River Bluff had said they would be sorry to
see her go.

"Very good skills to have," Tavia said warmly. "I'm a healer myself.
Can I show you to the stores? It's a little tricky in these old
passages."

"Certainly," he said gesturing to her to lead the way. "Just when you think
you followed the directions, well, they never lead quite where you think."

"Yes," she chuckled and turned to lead him back a little ways and then
turned an almost invisible corner. "I think the lights are out right
here. I'll have to tell someone. The electricity is old and sometimes
things go dark. You might want to keep glows as a backup just in
case."

"I'll remember that. Does it get very cold if the power goes down?"

"Yeah it does," she said with a tilt of her eyebrows. "Keep some
firewood just in case and extra blankets for the children especially.
The technicians are usually quick but it can last a couple days.
Luckily there are some rooms deep inside where the temperature doesn't
go below freezing. I was cold all the time when I first came from
Dolphin Cove." She turned the final corner and then swept an arm
towards an opening. "Here you are," she smiled.

"Thank you," came the reply with a smile. "I was sure the stores were around
here somewhere."

"Of course," she said. "Welcome to Dragonsfall. I'm sure you're going
to like it here."
