Characters: A'dryn, A'shel
Description: Two shy young riders meet.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 12, day 18 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Lanniya, E'rae, Briata

}:You are a very pretty color.:{ Nalarith told the blue getting a bath near her.

}:Thank you.:{

}Are you in a Wing? Do you fight Thread?:{ She'd learned that not all
dragons did. Some were hurt, or had riders that were hurt, or they
were too young like her.

}:I do. My lifemate and me are in Xmrenth's wing.:{ Himarth was very
proud of his wingleader.

**Who are you talking to?** A'shel peered around his dragon's
shoulder, spotting the bright green weyrling. **Ah, she's very
pretty.**

}:You should meet Himarth and his rider. They fight Thread!:{ Nalarith
told A'dryn.

The weyrling sighed. Nalarith seemed to think they needed to meet
every dragonpair in the Weyr. When he saw the curly-haired rider
appear from behind Himarth, A'dryn gave him a shy wave.

A'shel perked up when the boy waved at him. **Do we know them?** he
asked Himarth.

}:No, but she is very friendly, why don't you go and say hi?:{

A'shel fidgeted, being painfully shy. He opened his mouth to say
something but at the last minute gave the new boy a little wave
instead.

}:Look! You can be friends.:{ Nalarith nudged him.

**I'm trying to clean you.** A'dryn picked up another handful of sweetsand.

}:You can do that and talk at the same time.:{

**If I talk to him will you stop fidgeting?**

}:Yes.:{ She nudged him again.

And of course just because he was a dragonrider now didn't mean he
should forget his manners. "Hello, I'm Al-- A'dryn, rider of green
Nalarith."

In just as shy a voice, A'shel said, "I'm A'shel and this is Himarth,
nice to met you."

"Nice to meet you, too." A'dryn didn't know what else to say. Say
something about the weather? Dragons? He rubbed sweetsand into
Nalarith's hide. Did he even want to have a conversation?

In the awkward pause, A'shel fidgeted,wondering what to do now. He was
never any good around strangers.

}:Just try talking to him,:{ Himarth suggested.

"So...are you still in weyrlinghood?"

A'dryn bit his lip against a laugh. He didn't want to be rude.
Nalarith was so small it was obvious she'd recently hatched. "Yes, a
junior weyrling. I'm in the same clutch as Lanniya, the new goldrider."

A'shel blushed at the stupidity of his question and the way the other
boy was trying not to laugh at him. Ever since coming to the Weyr he
had been terrible at making friends. Actually, after E'rae had left,
he could only count Briata as his one and only friend. He opened his
mouth to say something and clamped it back shut, his face going even
redder, if that was possible. **Come on, let's go**

}:Why? Nalarith is nice and so is her rider>:{

**It doesn't matter, please let's just go**

"I..uh...I should leave you alone and in peace," A'shel said to A'dryn.

"It was nice meeting you. Fair skies to you and Himarth." A'dryn fell
back on the politeness that had been drilled into him.

}:Are you leaving already?:{ Nalarith asked. }:Will you tell me about
fighting Thread?:{ She vaguely remembered asking other dragons about
it but wanted to know more.

}:We can always meet again.:{ Himarth liked the pretty little green.
He nuzzled Nalarith before following his shy little lifemate.
