Writers: Devin, Chelle

Characters: D'ren, D'lorn
Description: D'lorn asks D'ren if he might consider something.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 13, day 11 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Lanniya

Arrayed in his office with the usual hides, D'lorn was going over some
lecture notes in preparation for the afternoon lessons.
He had sent a few messages out the day before and was waiting for
replies to them. Hopefully some of them would prove fruitful
since he needed to have possible arrangements in place in the coming
sevendays. Either way, he would manage.

D'ren knocked on the door. "You wanted to see me sir?"

"Ah yes, please come in bronzerider." This could be an easy meeting,
he thought. D'ren had a good record and he was of a certain turn not to
be too old but old enough. And his bronze had caught Vilarth once so he
was proven. D'lorn thought it could be a good match if it worked out.

D'ren walked in and took a seat, waiting patiently for the
Weyrlingmaster Third to start.

"As you know, we have a gold weyrling going through training at the moment.
In a few sevendays, the class will be graduating to senior weyrlinghood. I
know you know what the means." He cleared his throat, addressing the bronzerider
like another man would-not in his teacher tone. "D'ren, Lanniya's gold won't be
rising for some time, but her rider is young and naturally inexperienced since she
wasn't Weyrbred." D'lorn himself was traderbred so he knew how that world worked.
They almost always married within the caravans. "She'll need to prepare herself
and we are trying to look at options for her so when the time comes, we can advise
her. I think you might be a good choice, if you're amenable."

D'ren paled. "Oh, uh...um. I don't... really think of her like that."

"Well I can understand that you might not be romantically inclined per se,
but that might actually make you a better choice since you'll be more interested
in taking care of her than in the sex itself. Keep in mind, as well, that
it's very likely your Menanth could chase and catch Anaeryth later. So if she was already at
ease with you, it could help the encounter later. If you're not comfortable, though,
we can look at others but you're a young bronzerider who has a good record so your name
came up." D'lorn hoped he might reconsider.

"I can handle it if I win her Flight. That would be the dragons'
choice and not mine, like if I ended up with a male greenrider.
Begging your pardon, sir." D'ren cleared his throat. "She... reminds
me of my little sister."

Sighing, D'lorn was thinking this was going to be more difficult than he
thought. "Which means you would take care of her. That's what we're looking for. But
if you don't think it's something you can do, then we'll see about other options."

That was one of the aspects of Weyr life he hadn't gotten used to:
that they could casually arrange to have someone lose their virginity.
D'ren understood the importance of it but it still felt... wrong. "I'm
sorry but I'm just not comfortable with it."

To D'lorn there was nothing casual about it. He was choosing Lanniya's
possible choices very carefully. She deserved only the best and he would
have this be something safe and enjoyable for her so there was no fear or
regret. Anaeryth's future could not be risked. "Very well, sorry I took up
your time D'ren." Going over his notes, he began to consider other ideas.

D'ren stood. "I'm sorry I couldn't be more help, sir." Poor Lanniya.
He hoped she'd be able to find someone special, someone _she_ chose to
spend her first time with.
