Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 12, day 1 of Turn 7

Demir had requested an audience, so when the knock came at the door,
he was unsurprised to see who is guest was. As the holder entered,
Zathris smiled and then motioned to one of the chairs on the other
side of his desk. They had been recently replaced, the older, stiff
backed wooden furniture making way for something a little rounder,
plusher, and more comfortable. "Demir good to see you. Have a seat."
He nodded and took the offered seat. "Thank you for seeing me sir," he
said as he sat.
"Of course. Do you wish any refreshments? I can send for some if you
like." Zathris didn't know if the man would have something to discuss
with him that might take a while or not. Either way, it didn't hurt
to be polite.
Demir shook his head uncertain that he'd be able to wait in any case.
"Zathris," he said leaning forward in his chair. "I know I've told you
about my father's wishes regarding his legacy. I've been fortunate to
find someone here in Amber Hills to whom I believe I would like to be
joined."
"Well I'm glad to hear that." Although Zathris hadn't liked that
stipulation for it seemed to force Demir into a situation that wasn't
necessarily beneficial, if he had found someone that he was interested
in, all the better. It wasn't good to be alone. "However, I'm not
sure why you feel the need to come to me. I don't believe I had to
approve of your choice."
"True but you do have an interest in the Lady Rethisa," he sat up
straighter. "I would like your permission to court her if she will
have me."
Zathris mimicked Demi's motion, his spine stiffening a bit. "And when
did you decide this? I hadn't realised you were that well acquainted
with my sister."
Demir took a deep breath and smiled. "I don't know her well," he said.
"Do you believe in love at first sight?"
"No. I believe in attraction at first sight and I believe you can
learn enough about someone in a short amount of time to enhance that
attraction." Zathris offered a half smile. "If you wish to court
her, then you'll need to ask her. Rethisa is a woman, but she's also
an adult and can make her own decisions."
"I do," he smiled back. "But I also realize there is more to making a
life together than that." He knew Zathris well enough to know he'd
understand something of Demir's past. "I fell for my first wife the
same way." He shook his head. "I had the same feeling when I first saw
Rethisa. You know I'd given up the hope of finding that again." He
didn't have to explain his father's wishes or the consequences Demir
had though he'd have to bear in a loveless marriage. "I will ask, and
thank you."
Zathris didn't agree with the love at first sight thing, but he also
wasn't going to argue the matter. "Of course." After a momentary
pause and before Demir could make it to the door, he added. "You do
know about her history, don't you?"
"No, we haven't had much time to talk other than a few words at dinner
or a short chat here and there. I didn't feel it my place to ask any
of that until I had talked to you." Demir didn't want to ask personal
questions until there was a true reason for him to know. "Is there
something you feel I should know?"
His description merely solidified in Zathris' mild that it wasn't love
but attraction. Although it might have felt that way, true love
didn't come in such a manner and was more than just a feeling. He
almost grimaced as thoughts returned of his own infidelity which had
not been an action of true love, though he did love his wife. In
effort to shift his thoughts elsewhere, Zathris cleared his throat and
returned to the subject at hand. "It is her tale to tell, not mine.
Ask."
"I will," Demir nodded. "Thank you sir," he added respectfully.
