Becoming the Weyrlingmaster's Second was something to celebrate.
A'kades had just come back from the Vintner Hall with some new
purchases, which had depleted his marks stash but was worth it. Now he just needed to find a good friend to share it with...
**Can you find out if Lenala is free?**
}:My rider wants to know if your rider is available,:{ Volaith said to Vilarth.
}: Yes, she's free, :{ Vilarth replied, without even consulting with her rider. She though her rider needed to go out more. Lately all she had done was working. Which itself wasn't bad thing but her social life suffered because of it.
}:Then mine is going to drop by. Might I sit near you and admire
you?:{ the bronze asked.
A'kades, having gotten the clear, walked down the corridors to
Lenala's weyr, basket in hand. Then he knocked on the door.
}: Of course you can, :{ Vilarth answered graciously. Now, who didn't like to be admired.
Lenala was totally oblivious of her gold's scheming when she went to open the door. "A'kades? What brings you here?" she was surprised to see the bronzerider.
"My duty to you and Vilarth," he greeted. Then he displayed the basket to her. "I've been promoted, I have some lovely items from the Vintners, and I was hoping to share."
"I'm always glad to share," Lenala replied and led him further in. She threw a dirty look towards the ledge, **Something you forgot to tell me?**
}; Whoops, :{ the unrepentant gold replied.
Lenala hurried to clear her table. She had hides spread around it and she quickly piled them up to make room. "So, what's the promotion?" she asked.
"Weyrlingmaster's Second," he told her. "I thought I was going back to the wings, since I'm all healed up. But the Weyrleader asked if I was interested in making it permanent, and I really enjoyed working with Vilarth's dragonets."
He wasn't just trying to flatter her, either. They were going to be good riders.
"Well, congratulations then. You get to teach our weyrlings. It's a demanding position," Lenala said with a smile.
"It's certainly going to be interesting with a gold in the picture," he agreed. "And I hope it's good for the class to have a permanent instructor in the position."
"Yes, she's quite..interesting person to train," Lenala said
carefully. Her etiquette lessons weren't going as well as she liked.
"You're handling the color-specific training?" he asked.
"Yes. Rhosyn isn't the best teacher when it comes to protocol," Lenala replied. She fetched them glasses for the drink.
That was a tangled clump of Thread, so he sidestepped it carefully. "Didn't you train Vilarth's gold daughter as well?"
"A bit but Tsaera took care of most of it," Lenala said, a tad bit bitterly.
"At least this won't be entirely new to you. I have faith you'll do well with Lanniya."
"Thank you," Lenala said with grace and sat down in a sofa, tucking her legs under her.
He showed her the basket he'd brought back from the Vintner Hall. "Anything in here appeal to you?"
"Unless you're going to feed me, I'll take the white," Lenala said with a smile.
"I don't have any food at the moment," he admitted. "But I'm sure for such an esteemed person as yourself we could get something rustled up quickly."
"I could," Lenala admitted, "but I'm not really hungry right now. How about you? I can send drudge to kitchen if you like to eat something."
"No, I'll be fine," he told her. Then he busied himself for a moment opening the wine and pouring it into the glasses she had provided.
"So what's been going on in your life?"
"Nothing much," Lenala sounded bit desolate. "I thought H'vack and I were getting somewhere, then..." she made a gesture to indicate it had fallen apart. "So it's just work, work and work." She hadn't seen neither J'ren or D'ren much lately either.
"H'vack?" A'kades said with mild surprise. "I thought..." But he
trailed off and switched tacks. Lenala's failed relationships weren't his business unless she wanted to talk about them. Besides, he'd had a few failed relationships of his own.
"Work's good for the daytime, but colder comfort at night."
"Yes, and it's also rather morbid subject for discussion. Can we find something more happy ones?" Lenala asked. She did not want to analyze her failures to form permanent relationships.
"Do you know what's being planned here for Turnover?" Everyone liked parties, right?
"I'm sure Solieira will have something planned," Lenala said. So far the subject hadn't come up in the talks between her and Rhosyn. "Or you can always visit the Holds."
"I was thinking about going back to Opal Cove for a bit," he said. "Have you spent much time there?"
"No, I haven't. It's never been in the territory of Weyrs I've been," Lenala said.
"The Hold looks like a castle and it's beautiful. I'll let you know when the next Gather is," he offered with a grin.
"Sounds like a place worth visiting. I could check out the tanner hall's products. Perhaps they have some special hides not available here. Like black or white coloured. I would look fetching in black flight-jacket," Lenala replied with a bit of flirt in her voice.
"More than fetching," he agreed. With a bit of hometown pride in his tone, he boasted, "And trust me, if the Hall doesn't carry it, Tanners don't make it."
"I'll drink to that," Lenala lifted her glass.
He grinned and took a drink as well. "If you ever need any custom work done, just ask."
"You should be careful with promises like that. I might become quite a pest," Lenala said with a wicked little grin.
"My lady, you could never be a pest," the bronzerider assured her dramatically, putting his hand over his heart.
"Keep going," Lenala purred and shifted closer to him.
He placed his arm around her shoulders. "So speaking of custom work, did I ever tell you about the time..."
