When Morning Gold Guilds The Skies

Writers: AL
Date Posted: 4th April 2015

Characters: Meledei
Description: Elleth rises!
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 12 of Turn 7

The glow had begun slowly and seemed to last an eternity. While
generally a genial dragon, Elleth was not immune to the effects of her
body when her time to rise was nigh. As such, for the prior two
fortnights, she'd tossed in her sleep, passed her irritability on to
Meledei, and both had been plagued with odd dreams that made absolutely
no sense what so ever. Thus far, Elleth had risen early in the morning
and her latest would not alter that pattern. The day had just begun to
dawn, the rays of the sun, a richer, rosier gold than the pale almost
silver-laced hue of her dragon, stretched its fingers across the sky.
One emerald eye opened, then another, and a moment later, they began to
whirl, switching colours as the dragon leaped from her ledge and angled
down to feast upon the blood of the hapless beasts who had just begun to
graze the sweet grass peppered with morning dew.

That pale silvery gold streaked across, and the sound of the poor
creature was silenced before it could even be voiced. Although the fog
of sleep had yet to fully release its hold upon her, Meledei had mind
enough to firmly order the dragon to do no more than feast upon the
animal's life force rather than it's more desirable and succulent meat.
The angry retort was more emotion than words, laced with an undercurrent
attitude as a child who insists she already knows and doesn't need to be
told again was wont to own.

Even as Elleth drank, Meledei managed to shrug on her robe and fumbled
with the sash even as she stumbled into the hallway, feet bare, hair
unkempt. Other bodies soon joined her, the pulse of a gold in flight
impossible to ignore, even for those who had no dragons to be a part of
it. Before she'd even managed to make her way to the mating cavern,
hands already aimed for her, intent to touch, to caress, but she slapped
them away and pressed forward.

A group had gathered and eyes greyed with the glaze that marked the
remnants of sleep shifted to fall upon the human portion of the dragon,
who continued to work on draining beasts in response to her body's
needs. Fingers fumbled and flicked at her body, but Meledei pulled
away, irritation at the touch. If she was not done, why could they not
leave her be? A growl emitted from the young woman's mouth and her lips
parted to reveal white teeth, beast and woman far too merged to separate
one mind from the other.

With a bellow that resounded off the stony cover that embraced them, the
gold launched into the air with a single bound. Her sleek form rocketed
upward and she pushed further forward with every vigorous stroke of her
powerful wings. As the males followed, a myriad of bronze and brown
with a scattering of a few blues, they called and bellowed their intent
as well as their confidence, she answered them with silence, far too
enamoured with the sky to allow any of them to sway her so early.

She began the flight with an edge that she was unwilling to relinquish.
Although smaller than most golds, to underestimate her ability and
staminate would be a grave mistake. As the minutes stretched on, she
refused to surrender any distance, more than happy to lead those who
wished to capture her on a merry chase. The wind whipped over her body
and the chill that tightened around her as she continued higher was
ignored completely, her exertion more than enough to keep the blood warm
in her veins. Only when the air thinned too much to allow any more
height did she angle off to the side, the land beneath her and her
courtiers stretched beneath them. Mountains in the distance were
diminished to hills, but they offered no temptation. With a sharp
motion, she angled off toward the sea that flanked the other side of
her, a stretch of crystalline blue that melded with the sky into an
infinite expanse. The sun angled higher in the sky, morning winding
away even as the dragons continued their ritual.

Eventually, Elleth began to relent and allowed the males to close some
distance between them and her. As she did so, the calls to her, the
boasts, the cries of determination increased in intensity. The number
had, by that point, diminished and only a few bronzes and a couple of
browns remained in league with her. A delicate snort was all the reply
she offered as she arched upward and then twirled to veer off to her
right, once more heading away from the water and more toward the
snow-capped peaks so far on the horizon. Thus she began an array of
motions, a flick of a wing to shake off her pursuers, a twist, a turn.
As a bronze attempted to arch alongside her, she rolled off to the side
and dove beneath him only to drive back up on the other side. When one
of the final two browns attempted to cut her off, she folded her wings
along her form and allowed herself to fall, only to extend them and dart
away and return to her previous height. She watched as the brown
finally gave up to return to his frustrated lifemate.

Three candidates remained, each as eager as the other, but she continued
to pay their calls no mind as she tucked and rolled and shifted and
hurled herself this way and that. With each motion, she glanced at the
males, as if considering among those three. Then, with a last spiraled
twist, she launched herself into the embrace of her chosen, tail, neck,
and wings, enfolding with his even as Meledei found herself pressed in
the arms of a man and shut within a weyr to allow for some semblance of
privacy before the frenzy took away all sensation but the overwhelming
desire that burned through both of them.
