G'nir

G'nir

It was certainly cold. No one could argue that. At least it was sunny,
though. That meant they didn't have to fight snow.
So far there had only been a few minor problems. As the Fall went on, the
dragons fought and continued to keep the thread from reaching the ground
below. Arrayed against their enemy with the queens on the bottom, the
weyrlings, and then the fighting wings. From his perch on Jodeth, P'nal was
coordinating the Wing so G'nir could coordinate the Wingleaders.

Sh'lua was keeping an eye on his new wing pair. She was new rider and
pretty. The prettiness was secondary though, his
first concern was that she seemed to be having problems with unfamiliar
formations. He wasn't only one who noted she
was having issues.

}: Arurath's having troubles staying in formation,:{ Nirreth informed his
rider.

**Tell Jodeth to deal with it, send her back to the ground if she can't keep
up,** G'nir told him to relay the message.

}:Arurath, get with it or go back to the Weyr. Hold the line:{ Jodeth's
messages were quick since there were so many
conversations and relays to do. The brown held his place as the Thread fell
around them, flaming what came near.

**Great now the Wingsecond probably thinks we're screwups.** Farnalie
thought to her dragon as she adjusted her
goggles and visualized the correction that needed to be made with their
positioning to Arurath. The green moved slightly
to the left and higher. }:Well, we will flame this clump and prove ourselves
worthy!:{

Tilting to get the clump coming down, Arurath opened her mouth and began to
flame. However, the flame shot wide and
missed its target. Instead, the clump headed right for the bluerider on
their right-Sh'lua.

There wasn't enough time. He could have said something, but it happened so
fast. Still, once he made up his mind and began to go down that course of
action, P'nal felt time almost slow down. Every moment was separate. First,
he signaled to the riders near him that he was moving. Then, he visualized
for Jodeth where they needed to go.

**One...two...three** breaths and then they were out of /between/ behind
Galerith. The brown bugled once but the blue
wasn't moving fast enough. The thread was going to hit his left wing, which
was fully extended. Using his foreclaws, Jodeth grabbed hold of Galerith's
tail and forcibly pulled the smaller blue back and out of the way so the
dragon in the wing beneath him could get the thread.

}:Galerith I have you! Don't fight me!:{ He couldn't knock his wingmate
aside since there were other dragons there in the formation. Pulling him
back, though, got him out of the position.

Galerith's first reaction _was_ panic, being suddenly grabbed by the tail.
He floundered and struggled briefly before realizing what's happened. }:
Thanks Jodeth! :{ the big blue replied, finding his balance. }: You can let
go now. :{

Releasing the blue's tail so he could fly again without problems, Jodeth
corrected himself, glancing down the formation to make sure everyone else
was still in place. Before he could skip /between/, though, another bit of
thread came down from the sky. P'nal urged Jodeth back and the brown got out
of the way. Preparing to /between/ they agreed on the visualization.

}: Watch out! Behind you! :{ Galerith called Jodeth a warning. He twisted
around so he could flame the clump from the sky. Unfortunately, he wasn't as
fast and agile as the smaller blues were.

As Galerith twisted about, Jodeth began to go /between/. The problem was,
the brown wasn't fast enough and the thread landed, immediately eating his
hide. P'nal's head twisted around to see the damage then he came back again
to face Sh'lua, dark eyes knowing. He didn't yell but he didn't move in his
straps to get free even as his dragon did what any would do instinctively-he
readied to escape to the blackness of /between/.

}:It burns! It hurts so much:{ Roaring his pain, Jodeth twisted, fighting
even as he was being eaten alive. The brownrider on his back was feeling the
overwhelming pain, making him unable to focus properly. Still, he knew they
would never recover from this. And a life without his brown... He thought of
G'nir and the Wing, of the Weyr and his duties. Then, he thought of Harki,
searching for her. He couldn't find her and precious moments slipped by.
Then, Jodeth made the decision for them. The brown disappeared, taking his
rider with him.

Still in the middle of the maneuver, Galerith couldn't duck the tail end of
the Thread clump that had taken out Jodeth. The blue hissed when silvery
strands burned his neck. Sh'lua guided him /between/ and back to the Weyr.
They appeared safely above the plateau and Galerith backwinged to land.
Dragonhealers rushed to them.

}: Jodeth's gone, :{ Nirreth said and let out the sorrowful keen. But they
were too busy with the Fall to dwell on it. }:Galerith got a hit and
returned to the Weyr, :{ the bronze continued his steady steam of reports.

** Tell Upinth to call in a replacement for Galerith and tell Ysrameth to
take Jodeth's spot in the formation! ** G'nir had to scramble up something
to cover the hole in his ranks. "Warn Rogueth, they are getting more Thread
now with our formation broken.** Nirreth relayed the messages.
