Having secured the wineskin that he'd been after, Ny'n hurried down the corridor to catch up with the brownrider he'd seen leaving the dining cavern not long before. He hoped the older man didn't have plans for the evening, as was often the case. Many was the time Sh'Dori, had offered the younger rider sound advice and he was certain Sh'dori could help him now.
Seeing the brawny man ahead of him he called out, "Sh'dori, wait up." Sh'dori stopped and turned to look. "Hello, Ny'n!" he grinned. Ny'n grinned back. "Any plans tonight brownrider?" he asked lifting the wineskin and cocking an eyebrow. "Nothing I can't postpone for free wine," the older brownrider replied. "And this is no ordinary wine, I called in a favor to get this, mind you,"
Ny'n added with a sparkle in his blue-gray eyes. "Evenings warm, shall we find a nice spot outside?"
"The beach is always nice," Sh'dori suggested. "The beach it is," Ny'n agreed continuing down the corridor to the bowl. "Last time we had talked you were working on a pretty impressive carving, bigger than many of your pieces, did you finish that?"
"Erh, not yet. Something else came up and I put it aside for a moment,"
Sh'dori said. That was very typical of him, he always had several half-finished projects going on. He started one carving, abandoned it, started another one, put it aside and returned to the first one. Organizing was never his strongest skill. "Really?" Ny'n asked sarcastically, "And what was her name?" They reached the bowl and he stretched taking in a deep breath of night air and headed toward the beach. "Wanna list?" Sh'dori grinned good-naturedly. Ny'n grinned back at the burly man. "Actually, I want advice,or perhaps more accurately information," he stated certain to see some surprise from the older rider. Sh'dori had only made note once on Ny'n's disinterest in women and then dropped it, a fact that the younger brownrider had greatly appreciated. "What kind of advice?" Sh'dori asked curiously. "Well, as I said, not so much advice precisely," Ny'n paused not quite knowing how to explain what he wanted. "I need for you to share some of your wisdom concerning women. I've never been much interested, but suffice it to say that I have decided to make an effort. I am finding it rather difficult, though, even to talk to them." "Right," Sh'dori nodded sagely, feeling rather flattered. "First I need to know why you have a problem with women. I mean, if you were a bluerider, your lack of interest would interest." Ny'n paused trying to think of the best way to say this without getting into details. "When I was young, I guess you could say that I experienced the very worst of what a women could be. In fact I witnessed several instances. I developed a certain distain for women and learned to avoid them. Now I have long sinced learned that not all women are like that, but turns of avoiding them, well..." the brownrider faltered not certain what else to say. He looked ahead of them, they were nearly to the beach.
"Ah, a childhood experience. Those are hard to shake off. You probably should see a mindhealer to get rid of it," Sh'dori said, trying to sound like he really knew what he was talking about. "Meanwhile, you should try spending more time with women, learning to know them. It just may make your interest wake up naturally. When you meet the woman that is the missing half of your soul." Now, that was something he knew about. Ny'n nodded, he had considered the mindhealer himself, but had not really wanted to take that step. They had arrived at the beach, so the brown rider found a good place to sit and pulled two glasses out of a carrysack. "I have been trying to stike up conversations to get to know some women,"
he stated opening the wine. "My first attempts went badly. I guess certain females harbor bad feelings toward me for my ah," he cleared his throat, "Disinterest." He offered Sh'dori a glass and poured himself one.
"Other attempts have gone better, but it is awkward. Can you tell me a bit about your relationship with Chamia? Or is that too personal?"
"No, not at all. Let's see, I've known her since I moved to this weyr, but first she was too young to really spark my interest. Sometime over the following turns we learned to know each other better, Rahmuth caught her green a few times and one day we realized we had something special going on. Her pregnancy had a lot to do with it. The subject of weyrmating came up but after one look of my weyr she said I have to learn to clean up after myself first." Ny'n chuckled, "Well, you won't have to worry about weyrmating then will you?" "Probably not," Sh'dori laughed. "Let's face it, cleaning is just too much work." Ny'n sipped his wine. "So you think if I just continue to spend more time with women, things will come more naturally?"
"Yeah, that's the only advice I have. Except, treat them nicely and they will be nice to you."
