Kustaava struggled her way into the candidate barracks, her arms loaded with clothes. "Shells," a rare curse escaped her lips when some of them fall from her arms to the ground. Qarinoa smiled at the other Candidate as she bent down to get some of the fallen pieces. "You know making two succesful trips can be better than one disasterous one?" She had just finished getting her stuff in to the barracks as well.
"Probably, but it would mean twice the walk and this place is HUGE,"
Kustaava answered. "That's very true, but you'll get used to it. I'm Qarinoa or Qari Senior Apprentice Healer and Candidate." She walked with the girl to her bunk.
"I'm Kustaava, or Ava. A candidate and part of the kitchen staff." "Oh, so you cook?" Qarinoa had never enjoyed cooking, except when it came to brewing up remedies, but she could appreciate someone who did, and did it well.
"Not yet. They don't quite trust me with anything more demanding than peeling tubers and chopping vegetables yet," Kustaava answered with laughter in her eyes. "Ah, yes. I'm sure they'll learn to appreciate your help and let you do some cooking." She sat down on her bed not to far away and began getting together her toilatries for a bath she wanthed to take soon.
"I'm sure they will," Kustaava said and started to fold her clothes into the chest. It was nice to have new clothes that actually fit her thin frame and which weren't passed down from older sisters. "Where did you come from Ava?" the name rolled off her tongue easily enough, even though she had barely known the other candidate for no more than two minutes.
"From Jade Harbour Hold. Father has a farming hold there. It's a small one,"
Kustaava asked. "How about you? Were you born here?" "No, I don't know where I was born. My parents were killed in an accident while we were traveling near the Weyr. A weyrling found me wandering around, starved and lonely. I was only 6 turns old and so tramatized that I didn't remember my parents name only my own." She sighed, a faraway look on her face, but remembering that she was talking to someone she smiled. "Sorry, I can get that way when I talk about that. I actually started my interest in Healing very soon after I came here. I became facinated by the things that the healers did and began to memorize the herbs they used and what they used them for and such. I guess you could say my passion for my craft started at a very young age."
"I'm sorry to hear that," Ava said with symphatic voice. "Yeah the past is a bit of a mystery for me," she sighed and gathered up her toiletries into her arms, "You look like you could use some relaxation time, I was on my way to the bath would you care to join me?" She hoped this holder wouldn't be uncomfortable with the question but Qari knew that the baths were a great way to get relaxed after a hectic day. "Sure, I'll come. As soon as I find a towel. Should have one somewhere here..." Kustaava started to rummage thru the pile she had tossed on her bad. "Ah-hah!" she lifted the towel victoriously into the air. Then she collected the rest of the what she thought she might need. Qari smiled as she waited for her new friend and then she left with her to show her the way to the baths.
"You'll definately want to remember how to get to this room."
Kustaava nodded. "How do you avoid getting lost?" Well for us Candidates, if you realize you're going up a lot of stairs you're going the wrong way, that is unless you are invited to a weyr."
She smiled mischeiviously to the other girl. "You're probably going to be sticking to the lower caverns mostly though so just don't go up too many flights of stairs. Also if you enter the Weyr from inside the Bowl and you turned to your right to walk don't go too deep to your left after that.
Getting lost in the depths of the Weyr can be frightening, stick to the Bowlside." she was quick to assure her though, "But you'll be fine, don't let what I said keep you from going somewhere for a chore or something, the punishment from the Headwoman would be more frightening."
Ava kept nodding and listened carefully. "I quess you just have to learn to find your way." Qarinoa smiled, "Pretty much, but you'll figure it out."
