"Well if you ask me he's a simple waste of space and you shouldn't
worry about what he thinks. If he'd actually Impressed himself then at
least he'd have _something_ going for him," Selyna spouted as they
walked into the common room from drills. "Honestly I don't know why
you care." She tossed her leather jacket on a chair slouched down
onto the couch.
Riveenata took off her shoes and settled into a chair before she
responded. "Aw c'mon, Desajani is a good person. He's abrasive as the
Hatching Sands, but he's a hard worker. He's just sore because this is his
last chance."
S'grul made a rude sound as he removed his jacket . "Gotta go with
Selyna on this one," the bronzerider offered, not really caring overly
much about the discussion.
"We're probably going to have more weyrbred girls Standing with the
gold egg on the sands," Riven added. "It'll be nice to have the junior
clutch in training while we still are. Maybe we'll get to mentor them
a little."
"There's a few I definitely wouldn't mind mentoring," S'grul said with
a smirk as he flopped into a chair.
"Pfft," Selyna shook her head at S'grul. "You'd nail anything in a
skirt. How's a girl supposed to feel special? You know these holder
girls have been saving it for special, right?" She rolled her eyes at
Riveenata. "If Desajani makes you feel special then I'll grant him the
good guy but if not, cut him loose."
"And there'll probably be even more girls guarding their virtue in hopes
it'll make them more attractive to the gold," Riven pointed out.
At Selyna's last comment, she giggled a little. "Well, when we're seniors,
I do plan on looking him up."
Moving on to a topic he considered more worthy of his time, S'grul
looked from one greenrider to the next. "Can you believe how simple
those drills were today? Same things, over and over. When are they
going to actually let us have a challenge?"
"After we've /betweened/ and they know who will live," a bluerider named
N'lesh said crankily.
"Well, that day can't get here fast enough. Vashath and I are ready,"
S'grul insisted arrogantly, grabbing up a redfruit from a bowl on the
table and inspecting it for soft spots before taking a bite.
"We're doing more advanced formation changes, and today's lesson was
more visualization. I think it'll be either this or next sevenday,"
Riven said. "Not that we'll get to go far."
"Any /between/ is better than no /between/," Selyna drawled and put
her feet up on S'grul's lap. "Then we can all have what we're aching
for."
"And what are you _aching_ for Selyna?" S'grul asked his free hand
dropping to gently massage her ankle. He knew good and well what she
was referring to, but couldn't let the statement pass.
"True, that," Riven agreed.
She shook her head as she watched the byplay, wondering if those two were
going to wind up as one of those fun weyrlinghood things. She'd seen ones
that consumed the second half, but tended to end after everyone hit the
wings.
Selyna donned a rather knowing smile though she was careful not to let
her feeling bleed through to her lifemate. One of her bare feet rubbed
dangerously close to something important in S'grul's trousers. "I'll
give you a hint," she grinned.
With a groan, S'grul caught up her foot and placed it closer to his knee,
kneading the arch deeply as he did so. He should have known better than to
tease Selyna. Promotion to senior ranks couldn't come soon enough in his
estimation. Checking his thoughts before Vashath could take notice he
tried to divert his own attention elsewhere. "What of Savith?" he asked
still rubbing the foot in his hand while disposing of the red fruit core in
the other. "She's usually anxious for the next step," he commented,
knowing the little green's penchant for adventure-seeking. Not that his
bronze was far behind.
"She's excited, of course. It's "where are we going to go first" and "then
we can go everywhere we want"," Riven relayed. "I hope we're not made to
go first. She needs to see a better example."
S'grul let out a guffaw. "Well, I'd be more than pleased to go first."
"Better you than me," she said fervently. "Where do you want to go first?"
"We most likely won't have a choice in the matter for a good many
jumps, but as soon as I _do_ have the freedom to choose I want to find
the first gather that I can. It's been ages since I've been to a good
gather."
Selyna groaned a little at the shivers that ran up her spine at the
massage. "The only party I want is horizontal," she shrugged. "It's
been too long."
"I'll be happy to attend that party," S'grul quipped, keeping a
careful rein on his thoughts, pleased that his lifemate was dozing in
the sun. He alternated his touch from light to firm on Selyna's foot
and ankle, not daring to trail up her well muscled leg for fear of the
affect it would have on his mental control. "How about you Riven? Any
such party plans other than with Desajani?"
Selyna gave S'grul a slow wink then looked at Riven with interest.
Privately she hoped her friend would pick someone better for her
graduation party.
She blushed a bit, remembering. "F'lin, actually," she said, figuring they
might know the bronzerider. "We had a thing going for a bit before my Impression,
though maybe he's found someone else."
"I know him," S'grul said with nod. "His grandmother's goldrider Tsaera,
right?"
"Exactly. I helped him celebrate his own graduation, actually," she added.
"Given a few massages after Threadfall."
"Well he's yummy," Selyna smiled. "I say go for it and ignore that
pain Desajani. She looked knowingly at S'grul. "Once we graduate," she
said as a salute and picked up her glass.
"Here, here," S'grul agreed grabbing for a nearby cup of klah to
raise, ignoring the fact that it wasn't even his.
"To graduation," she joined in, raising her juice with a grin.
