Description: Aldryn Impresses green Nalarith.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 15 of Turn 7

Aldryn joined the other Candidates, his heart beating wildly. Most of
the girls, of course, were focused on the gold egg. They all spread
out a respectful distance from the eggs and the protective Queen while
the dragons' humming and the excited murmuring of the crowd filled the
cavern.

He'd thought the Weyr was overwhelming before, but this was so much
worse. **What if I don't Impress this time? What if I _never_ Impress?
What will I do if there's no point to me being alive?** Aldryn pushed
the thoughts away. Positive, he had to be positive. Negative thoughts
might drive a hatchling away and what if that was his only chance and
he ruined it...

Aldryn took a deep breath and let it out.

The humming increased and the first egg cracked. Aldryn tensed, but
then saw it was a brown. Not for him. Then several eggs hatched in a
rush, and there seemed to be dragonets everywhere. Cheers rose up as
people Impressed. Aldryn spotted a green with a lovely dark hide.
**Please choose me.** He projected love, just as they'd been told.

But no. The green chose an older girl who had to be nearing her last
chance to Stand.

Aldryn bit his lip and searched again. There was another... no she was
already being led off the Sands by her new rider.

}:You are worthy.:{

The voice in his head cut through everything else.

}:None of the others fit but you do.:{

And then he saw her, walking toward him with as much determination as
her shaky legs would allow. A bright, light green the color of new
leaves. He stumbled forward to meet her and everything disappeared
when he looked in those rainbow eyes.

**Oh, you're perfect. Beautiful, amazing, perfect! Are you really mine?**

}:Yes, and you are mine. I am Nalarith, and you are perfect, too.:{

Distantly, he heard himself calling her name, announcing it to the
world. He slowly came back to reality and found himself on his knees,
arms wrapped around Nalarith and tears streaming from his eyes. He
would never be alone, and he would always be loved.

}:I love you very much, but I am very hungry.:{ She butted him gently.

With a smile, he got to his feet and led her toward the tables where
the other new weyrlings were feeding their dragons. Another cheer
rippled through the Stands.

The crowd. His parents. And he'd Impressed green.

}:What is wrong? You are upset.:{

"Nothing." He couldn't worry about himself, he had to take care of
her. Nalarith was all that mattered.

She reached the feeding area and reared up, trying to get at the meat.
}:It is too far. I am _so_ hungry!:{

He pushed her gently, his own stomach growling in sympathy. "I'll get
it for you. That's what I'm here for." He scratched her eyeridge as a
wave of love went through him. It was so much more wonderful than he
could have imagined. **You make my life worth it.**

She opened her mouth as he fed her the first chunk of meat. }:No, I
chose you because you were perfect. If you were not worthy you would
not be mine.:{

It was hard to deny when he feel her emotions inside his head. She
meant it and Aldryn found himself crying again. No, A'dryn. Aldryn,
the holder, was gone.

He was A'dryn now, Nalarith's rider, and everything had changed.
