G'nir

G'nir

G'nir walked around the room with a glass in his hand. He was looking for
company. The harper woman was attractive looking, and seemed to be currently
alone. So G'nir approached her. "Can I have this dance, my lady?"

Almost at an eye with him, unlike most women, Nokala turned and faced the
Weyrleader. For a moment, her dark eyes registered her surprise. Then she
settled and gave a slow smile before nodding. The Hatching had gone over
well without any problems. The harper had been forced to get herself a new
gown, though. Everything she had was made for warm weather with light
fabrics. She'd been loathe to part with the marks needed, but now she didn't
regret it at all. Offering her hand, she found herself wondering what sort
of man their Weyrleader was. She'd heard things of course and knew the
Weyrwoman was a fairly recent resident. Why had the other one left?

Giving his glass to a passing drudge, G'nir gave a bow and took her hand. "I
don't believe I have the pleasure of meeting you before?" he asked when he
escorted her towards the dance floor.

"Ah not yet sir. I'm Nokala, senior journeyman harper, just come in from Far
Island." She smiled, proud of her rank and craft. Feeling his hand take
hers, she followed his lead while the music's rhythm played along in her
head in the background. She loved Hatchings. Since Nokala had just arrived,
she wasn't required to play at this one, but she would in future. With her
legs, she was easily graceful and she could fit G'nir's reach.

"I hope you've enjoyed it here in Dragonsfall. The climate is quite a
different," G'nir remarked with pleasant chat-tone.

"Well except for the lights going out, everything seemed to be fine. Of
course the cold takes some getting used to, I'll admit." Nokala had to frown
at that remembrance. So cold it had been and she with only so many proper
clothes. "I've met some nice people so far though."

"There are plenty of nice people here," G'nir smiled and then the music
picked up and talking became impossible.

She watched that smile and wondered. **The Weyrleader is certainly a real
charmer.** It wasn't hard to fall into the dance but while her body kept
time, Nokala was evaluating. This was the first time she'd gotten up close
to G'nir and he was a good person to understand. Every Weyr was different,
but each one was even more different under each Weyrleader who led it. When
they changed, other things changed. **Good looking, but does he have the
brains to back up the brawn? Can dance too.**

Of course, grown up as Lord Holder's son, dancing were part of his basic
upbringing. When the music ended, he escorted her back to side. "Do you want
refreshments or new dance?"

"Since it is your Hatching, maybe you should have the choice?" She smiled,
her voice slightly teasing. Nokala could use some water, but she could take
one more round of dancing if it afforded her more time to study him. He was
clearly attractive. As Weyrleader he had power. But his Weyrwoman had left
him, so was he worth spending time with? Was he too serious?

"Well, then, I would prefer a second dance with you," G'nir answered.

"Just a moment..." She grabbed a cup of water as it went by and eagerly
pulled it down. She wasn't worried about her gulping. Nokala had been used
to being seen as odd her entire life because of her height. Anything else
was usually just accepted along with that. As she finished it off, she heard
the harpers tuning up and knew it wouldn't be too much longer. And she
couldn't help but smile-he had chosen to dance with her for two sets when he
could have had any woman in this Weyr. **What did that mean hm?** "Lead on
then, Weyrleader."

G'nir lead her back to the dance floor. This time the tune was slow, sensual
one and their bodies were pressed together. "Do you have plans for the
night, my lovely harper?" he whispered the question into her ear.

Something about that sent her toes to curling. It was curious though. This
was the new Weyrwoman's first Hatching here at Dragonsfall. Wouldn't she be
expecting the Weyrleader afterwards? Nokala hadn't heard the two were
weyrmated but they weren't ignoring each other either. **Is it wise to put
myself in the middle of that, when I could draw her ire?** She thought about
Saibra and what she knew of her and supposed if she were truly a woman of
the Weyr, she wouldn't worry about it. Besides, none of the current Southern
Weyrleaders were matched pairs to her knowledge. "Not yet." She smiled,
enjoying the dance and not exactly caring if people thought her a wanton.

"Perhaps I'll persuade you to join me for a private celebration in my weyr,"
G'nir said, his tone seductive and full of sexual energy. What he said was
less important than how he said it.

"Perhaps I'll enjoy the persuading," she quipped with a smile. Dark eyes
twinkled even as she wondered what he would be like between the furs. Even
though many had likely gone before her, she would never look a gift runner
in the mouth.
