Lenala

Lenala

Lenala walked into the meeting room, carrying a large pile of hides. "Hi, Rhosyn!" she
greeted brightly. "And congratulations!," she then sighed a bit wistfully. "It's been Turns
since Vilarth's last laid a gold egg."

Of course the news had thrown the Weyrwoman into a cloud of happiness that she was
reluctant to come down from. For once, something in her life had gone right and she wasn't
about to let anything else mar it. "Well..maybe in a few turns she will. And then
we'll almost have a full Weyr of queens." That would be essential to surviving the Pass, she
knew. Time would tell and they would manage till then. Still, one more was very good. Very
good indeed. She watched Lenala lay out everything, quietly thinking.

"Well, yes. Orlaith's clutch means we have busy time ahead of us," Lenala wasn't going to
throw a jealous fit.

"Indeed. You'll be leading the Wing while I handle the Hatching and all of that. After though..we're going to have a weyrling to train. Some of that falls to you and some of it falls to me once the Weyrlingmaster gives her the basics." Rhosyn wondered if Lenala thought herself up to that.

Lenala was wondering the same thing. "Well, we should be able to do it, between the two of us," she said with optimism she didn't quite feel. "I mean, if you put two of us into one person, you would have a perfect Weyrwoman. Your leadership skills and my people skills."

Rhosyn chuckled at that assessment, which was mostly true once she thought about it. "Good
observation there. Here's a list of the current female candidates. I had the Weyrlingmaster make a few notes about them and I added to the ones I know so we know what we might be looking at." She passed the hide over.

Lenala looked over the list. "I presume searchriders are instructed to look for female candidates? Wouldn't it be interesting if that HAD-girl impressed a gold?"

"The searchriders are bringing in everything since we have more bronzes, browns, blues, and greens. But yes, there will be more than enough girls for the gold egg." Rhosyn had yet to speak to the girl for various reasons, but she had spoken to people who had. "We both know that I wanted Briata to Impress. This girl, though...she's young Lenala. Besides, it may be too early for her-at her first Hatching no less. Besides from what the Weyrlingmasters say..she's not very mature. That could be very difficult especially when she'll have to control a gold."

"I heard she was described as bouncy," Lenala said. "In the end, it's the dragonet's choice."

"Aye it is." Not wanting to say that they knew just how bad it could be when the rider didn't control their dragon since it had indeed been Lenala's fault, Rhosyn let that part of the conversation lie. "So tithes should be getting a bit larger so we'll have enough for the feast and all of that. I imagine we'll have quite a bit of people in for this one."

"Gold Impression tends to attract attention," Lenala agreed. "Will Lord Bryvin and his new wife attend?"

"You can bet on it. I'm quite curious about her, to be honest. Met her briefly and she seems like someone I would like. She's much younger than him, though. He probably thinks he can handle her." Rhosyn had been a holder for part of her young life though she'd never held any rank. Lenala knew more about that than she did, but she had been around plenty of Lords and Ladies since Impressing besides a tyrannical Weyrwoman.

"I've yet to meet either of them," Lenala said. The two of them rarely took part in the same occasions. When Rhosyn had gone to the wedding, Lenala had stayed at the Weyr, to hold the fort.

"You didn't meet him at your Hatchings?" Rhosyn was trying to remember if he had come or not. Or had it been Morin? She couldn't keep the timing straight. The pregnancy and everything else had made everything a blur.

"That was Morin," Lenala said. It had been three months since Vilarth's Hatching and it felt like lot of things had happened after that.

Shrugging, Rhosyn didn't dwell on it. "I met him at the gather and this time but not very much. Then again, I don't have any reason to do otherwise. K'sedel deals with him more than I do." Rhosyn had other things to occupy her time. "Food was good though. And he can dance." In her book-that was a lot.

"And what else do we require from a Lord Holder? Tithes in time and good parties," Lenala said. How they managed their holds was not the dragonriders' concern. "Oh, and ground crews and keep yard free of greenery."

"And candidates," Rhosyn waggled her finger. That was very important considering. "Speaking of parties...I have to get down to planning ours. And it's going to be a _big_ one."

"Yes. I love big parties," Lenala agreed.
