R'taran figured he had best see the Headwoman sooner rather than
later. His mother had made it quite clear that she expected him to
look his very best at his brother's wedding, and he knew that his
current gather tunic would not meet with her exacting standards.
There may or may not be something ready made in stores to fit his
large frame, so choosing fabric and having to seek out a competent
seamstress was a distinct possibility. The brownrider sighed at such
frippery slapping his gloves against his thigh in agitation.

He knocked briskly at the Headwoman's office door, hoping she was in.

Fortunately for the brownrider, Chaysea was in her office and she
glanced up from her hidework at the rapping on the door, "Come in."
She recognized the man and smiled, "R'taran. What can I do for you?"
After a few months of working as the Headwoman, Chaysea was beginning
to recognize more and more people out of the sea of inhabitants at
Dolphin Cove.

He acknowledged her friendly greeting with a nod. "My eldest brother
is getting married and I am in need of suitable attire," he explained,
trying to keep the irritation from his voice at the unwanted
necessity. "I wanted to see if there was something in stores that
would be appropriate, or at least attain some cloth so that I can
commission an outfit."

Chaysea pushed up from her desk, her hands automatically smoothing her
skirts, "Let's go check out the storage room then and see what we can
find for you." She snatched her keys off of her desk and led the way
out into the hall.

"Should I need to have something made, can you recommend someone? How
long does something like that take?" He queried following the
Headwoman to the storeroom.

"That depends on the crafter that you get and how much you pay them.
The best thing to do if you are crunched for time is snag something
from the storeroom and have a crafter tailor it for you." The
Headwoman's keys jingled as she fished out the right one and then
unlocked the storeroom door. Flicking on the switch on the wall, the
eletricity hummed and then flickered to life, bathing the storeroom in
a soft glow.

"All of the mens clothing is here." She led the way to the back left
corner where there were racks of shirts and jackets, and then shelves
of pants and riding leathers.

R'taran grimaced as he headed toward the indicated area. If ever
there was a reason to have a weyrmate, this was it because he hated
having to choose new clothes. He went through the racks quickly,
pulling out those that appeared as if they might be at least a close
fit and easy to alter. There was a gray, a blue, and a green that
would all suit his purposes assuming he could find accompanying
trousers. The gray was a very nice fabric and normally more along the
lines of what he might choose for himself, but he was uncertain if his
mother would approve. Though it was finely made with a stylish cut,
it was not exactly festive, which was probably why he favored it.

With obvious discomfort, he held the piece up for the Headwoman to
see, hoping that, being a woman, she might be able to advise him.
"Would you find this appropriate for a wedding?"

Chaysea, coming from a lifetime at Amber Hills, was quite versed in
the appropriate attire for ladies and men, and she wrinkled her nose a
bit, "Where is the wedding?" She asked.

"My father has a mid-sized Hold not far from Emerald Falls. He has
done well in expanding his holdings and this union will be
advantageous. The event will be well attended, with at least a few
influential individuals," he answered, hoping to offer some insight
that would help her give him an informed opinion.

The Headwoman shook her head, "You don't want want to wear these drab
colors to a place like Emerald Falls." Chaysea disappeared into the
racks, muttering softly to herself about Hold colors, and tropical
atmospheres, and what would be expected at a wedding. When she emerged
she had a pair of black trousers in one hand, and a dark turquoise
shirt in the other, "He were are." The material of the tunic was thin
and would breathe nicely in the warmer climate.

R'taran's eyes widened at the vibrant hue of the tunic Chaysea
suggested. She seemed confident and knowledgeable, though. Putting
his own selection back, he stepped forward to feel the fabric. It
would certainly be comfortable in the tropical heat and he supposed
the dark turquoise would go well enough with his own coloring.
"Undoubtedly, my mother would offer her undying gratitude for your
intervention," he stated dryly, "And for that, you have my thanks as
well because you have probably saved me an unsavory lecture."

Chaysea gave a little chuckle, "I had a husband once upon a time so I
am not a complete stranger to having to pick out clothes for a man."
Dothran had also been much older and color blind. "If you take them
down to the tailors I am sure they can have it ready for you in time.
There's also a greenrider I know, she's grounded right now with
pregnancy, and she does some tailoring as well. Her name is Jeyme. She
would probably have more time to work on it and get it done quickly."

"Thank you for the recommendation," he finally offered a small smile,
realizing now that he had accomplished his mission how attractive the
new Headwoman was. "And for your invaluable help. I hope you are
finding life here at the Weyr to your liking."

The Headwoman returned his smile, "I am, thank you. I was so nervous
when I first moved here, having lived nowhere but at Amber Hills since
I was born. Dolphin Cove has been amazing, however, and I am certainly
enjoying the warm sun and the beautiful waters."

"It is certainly a tremendous change from life at a Hold," he
affirmed, thinking back to his own transition six turns prior while he
reached to take the clothes from her. "It can take some getting used
to, so I am glad to hear you find yourself adjusting nicely. Had I
not had Qharterioth on which to focus my attention, I'm not sure I
would have done so well."

"I have had some good friends." She immediately thought of L'pin. "If
there is nothing else, I will close up the closet."

"This is is all that I need. Thank you again for your help," he said
and inclined his head.

"Any time." Chaysea smiled.
