Description: T'lat brings some concerns to the Weyrling staff
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 9, day 5 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Ninaine, J'darin, E'naer
"Sir?" T'lat stood in the doorway of the Weyrlingmaster's common room.
"Do you have a moment.
D'kere looked up from the progress reports that J'darin had asked him
to write. The rigid wood of his desk chair had finally driven him to a
more comfortable setting, and he was on "duty" that day with the
Weyrlings.
"T'lat," he said looking up, "what can I do for you?"
T'lat wasn't even sure he should be here but stepped into the room
anyway. He looked down at his hands and then took another step. "Sir,"
he said. "I think I need to talk to you about Ninaine."
At the "N" word D'kere became more alert. He was suppose to be
handling all things Ninaine since J'darin in his frustration had given
him that assignment. Although it seemed the girl went more to E'naer,
which was fine by D'kere, it meant less drama, or tears, or biting
dragons.
"Allright, go ahead."
"Well," he started, "She's been talking to me some about the way she
feels about things and she's really confused with the Weyr and the
Hold and it's all a big mess. But," he took a big breath and decided
to spit it out. "I think she may try to hide when Luneth rises."
D'kere's brows furrowed together as his blue eyes widened, "_Hide_?
Why?" He knew that some Weyrlings were often nervous and hesitant
because of old hold values or lack of experience but... _Hiding_?
"It's her Hold notions," he shook his head sadly. "She just doesn't
want to do sex. So she may hide. I've tried to talk her into picking
someone nice to help her out before hand but she just curls up and
doesn't want believe she'll need to. I'm worried for her or I wouldn't
have come here." He was also feeling very conflicted like he was
somehow betraying her confidence.
**Holders. Sometimes I think Pern would be better without them and
their ridiculous ideas.** D'kere could not fathom the way that Holders
thought and it always made him thankful he was not one of them.
"Well, if it makes you feel more comfortable, usually before the
greens have a chance to rise for the first time, the Weyrlingmaster
usually pulls virgins aside and helps them find experienced riders who
will show them the ropes before their dragons rise, or catch. Of
course, with Ninaine's volatile nature I doubt she will be very
receptive to J'darin, or anyone else, doing that for her. Ultimately,
no one can force her to have sex before her first flight. She will do
nothing but hurt herself." To which D'kere wondered if the girl was
just seeking the attention, or perhaps she welcomed the drama.
**One can never tell with little girls.**
}:There is a reason why you do not catch many females.:{ Kenirath
butted in with amusement.
**Talwynn is a handful enough for me.** D'kere answered back.
"It could possibly be helpful to find a female dragonrider who was
also a Holder. She might be able to relate to them better and,
hopefully, listen a little more to their experience." D'kere jotted
down this idea even as he told it to T'lat.
"Yes sir, she might," he said hesitantly. "But just so you know. I
mean, I know they got in trouble and all... but I think she really
likes that bronzerider, N'call."
Being a part of the Weyrlingstaff had made D'kere privy to the
incident between the bronzerider and gren Weyrling. D'kere had been
flabberghasted that a smart man like N'call would make such a silly
mistake.... with _Ninaine_ of all people. But then, he supposed some
people were surprised at the relationship that had developed between
him and Talwynn... Perhaps opposites really did attract.
"True.... If they can follow the rules and wait then that could be a
good solution. He certainly has gotten closer to her than anyone
else."
"Yes sir," he said. "I think she'd go with him if she got up the
courage. But I don't know the bronzerider well enough to tell you if
he's interested." T'lat was very concerned for Ninaine's experiences
at the Weyr. Luneth was trying enough when she was being friendly.
D'kere was on good terms with most everyone in the Weyr since he had
grown up there, "I will talk to him then and see what he thinks. Thank
you for bringing this to the Weyrlingstaff, T'lat." It seemed that
Ninaine had at least gained a good friend in the green Weyrling.
"Thank you sir," the young man said and stood. "That was all I wanted
to let you know."
