Description: Corvera comes to Dragonsfall to accept her position of Weyrwoman and meets the Weyrleader.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 9, day 10 of Turn 3
Although it had been light out when Corvera had left Far Island for the last time, it was dark when she and Mnaiath landed at Dragonsfall Weyr.
She slid down her gold's foreleg and onto the Weyrleader's ledge.
}: I already announced our arrival to Treadoryth. The Weyrleader knows you're here. :{
** His name is D'wrayt, correct?** The last thing Corvera wanted to do was make a poor impression on her new Weyrleader. After Mnaiath answered in the affirmative, the goldrider knocked on his door with confidence.
D'wrayt had been expecting the knock and opened it quickly. "Hello, you must be Corvera. Welcome to Dragonsfall, please come in and make yourself comfortable." he said with a tired smile. It had been a long day and he was ready to sleep, but it was only polite and very necessary that he meet with the goldrider who was to be his Weyrwoman even if she didn't know it yet.
Corvera entered quickly, eager to get out of the cold. "Thank you very much, Weyrleader D'wrayt. It's very kind of you to see me this late."
The weyrwoman second took in her surroundings as she waited for the Weyrleader to get down to business.
"I don't mind. I'm sure you've heard what happened to our Weyrwoman by now. Besides you and Mnaiath, the only other gold is in weyrling training. Do you have much experience with running a Weyr?" he asked hoping that she had at least some experience.
"As much experience as can be expected." Corvera was a little put off by the man, but she attributed it to the late condlemark. "I was wingthird for many turns and I've been Weyrwoman Second for a few months now. I'll have a lot to catch up on here, I know."
"Luckily, Jaela and I worked very close together. She kept her office and records filed neatly, so it shouldn't be too hard to pick up on what's been going on. I've got several riders who can help and I'll do my best to help out however I can. Do you have any questions?"
The new Weyrwoman did her best not to laugh - did she have any questions? Of course she had questions. In fact, she had about a million. "Is there a set schedule you'd had in mind for the first few weeks or is my agenda my own?"
"Other than the set wing drills and threadfall, your schedule can be however you want it to be. Your wingsecond will be able to introduce you to the wing members and I know that Jaela had a file on the flight patterns they used."
Corvera nodded only once, sharply. She felt then that she was stepping into someone else's life, someone else's pattern. She was vaguely aware that the feeling would linger for months. "Is there anything else I should know before beginning my duties tomorrow?"
"I don't think so. Your weyr is through this dooor and on the other side of the council room, so if you need anything don't hesistate to come ask." D'wrayt said pointing to the door that led into the council room.
He had already cleaned out the weyr and removed all of the items that had made it Jaela's. Most of it went back into storage, but he had kept a tapestry that he knew she had particulary liked and brought the rest of her personal belongings to her remaining family members at Topaz Sea Hold.
"Thank you, Weyrleader D'wrayt." Her tone was gentle and soft. She knew it must be painful to see another rider occupy his Weyrwoman's former weyr.
"You're welcome, Corvera. Have a good evening." he replied trying to stifle a yawn, but not succeeding.
The Weyrwoman smiled apologetically. "Good night, sir."
"Good night, Covera." he replied as he held the door open for her.
