Description: The two confront their feelings.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 8, day 18 of Turn 7
Her rider was upset and this just wouldn't do. So Riveth reached out
to Kenirath. }:My rider feels funny. Your rider is nice. Can he come
help
her?:{
D'kere was sitting out on his weyrledge beside one of the outdoor
heaters he had used for his date with Talwynn. A glass of dark liquor
was perched between his long fingers and his face was impassively
blank. Talwynn had only served to show him that nice guys really do
finish last. He had invited her into his bed but she had declined.
What was wrong with him? He had known E'var for nearly his entire life
and
he knew exactly why women went out with him.
He shook his head in disgust before downing the rest of the liquor in his
glass.
}: Riveth says her rider is unwell. She would like you to check on
her.:{ Kenirath interrupted his melancholy.
**I don't know if I can do that. I am not feeling like a nice guy right
now.**
}: It is our duty to look after others.:{ Kenirath reminded him.
D'kere growled as he pushed to his feet, "Blast your bronze
integrity." He hopped down off of their ground level ledge and strode
toward Riveth's.
}:Thank you for summoning your rider,:{ Riveth told the bronze when
she saw the Weyrlingmaster's Second approaching.
}:You have a guest,:{ she informed her own rider.
**I don't want a guest.** Talwynn had flung herself onto her bed. The
gloves were still on and the stupid dress had been laced back up just
enough to cover her, but she hadn't felt energized enough to change
when she got back in. She just wanted to lie and brood forever.
}:You have one.:{ The green moved aside to make sure he could pass.
Talwynn had enough warning to pull the dress together and shuffle to the
sitting room. She was both surprised and somehow not surprised to see
D'kere. "Hey," she said in a flat tone.
D'kere shoved his hands in his pockets, "Riveth wanted me to come check on
you." He said without preamble.
Narrowed grey eyes peered towards the weyrledge. **Traitor,** she thought,
and was rewarded with a low grumbleing sound from the ledge.
"I'm sorry if she dragged you away from anything important. Uh, do you
want to...sit, have some water?"
"No, I just want to know you are okay.... Are you?" He didn't sit but
remains standing.
She gave a half-shrug and tried to keep a steady voice. "I've been worse
off. Now I'm just sitting around being pissy."
D'kere sighed. Why had Riveth asked him to come over? "How was your date?"
He asked for lack if anything else to say.
"Handsy," was the short comment. "Apparently, as a greenrider, I'm
supposed to understand that going out for drinks and dancing is a
guarantee for other things."
The bronzerider's eyebrows lifted a fraction, "Yes, that does sound like
E'var." The brownrider never had a shortage of women, that was certainly
true.
"If that's what we're supposed to do, I'm not good at it."
"You didn't want to do...'other things'?" D'kere asked knowing that
E'var was not the type to make his intentions a secret.
She shook her head. "I think I did when we set out. The plan was to just
cut loose and feel appreciated. But I just wasn't feeling it. Don't know
why." She shrugged, embarrassed.
**_I_ appreciated you.** D'kere thought sulkily. He said nothing to
Talwynn, however, settling for a slow nod instead. He didn't really
want to hear any details from her night out with E'var anyway, "Well,
if you are alright I'll just be heading back to my weyr." And to
another glass of liquor.
She tried to summon up a bit of a smile for him before he left, but it
wound up looking more like a grimace. "I'm sorry Riveth bothered you."
The look on her face tugged at his insides. "C'mere." He reached out
and tugged her toward him and then wrapped his arms around her in a
gentle hug, "It's not a bother. Please don't be upset over someone
like E'var. He doesn't deserve you anyway."
She huffed and buried her face in his shoulder, more heartened by the
contact than she wanted to admit to. "I'm too angry, and prickly, and I
don't know what I want. I know why nobody likes me."
"That's not entirely true.... I like you." He said with a hint of a
chuckle, his hand stroking through her hair.
**I don't know why,** she thought, but knew to not say.
"You're the exception," is what she said.
"Ah," D'kere pulled back from the hug, "I am usually the exception.
Bluerider riding a bronze, you know." He quoted E'var's words from
earlier in the evening.
"That was mean of him to say," she muttered.
D'kere shrugged, "I am use to it."
Kenirath gave the mental equivalent of an eyeroll as he spoke to
Riveth, }:Our riders are not very good at this, are they?:{
}:My rider is _very_ bad at people,:{ Riveth said crossly. }:She does not
rise as much as she should and she will not let others help her. She does
not like the idea that she might like your rider. It is very confusing.:{
It felt nice to be upset by something outside herself, so Talwynn went
with it. "That's not the point. Was he the bully of your class or
something?"
The bronze dragon commiserated with Riveth, }:Tell me about it. My
rider does not catch for as often as he should. I try to tell him to
do this more often but his has a thick skull.:{
D'kere shook his head, a little uncertain how the conversation had
turned to him, "No, E'var was not a bully. He's not really even a
bully now. Most of the Weyrlings I graduated with use to say that. A
lot of them have transferred to other Weyrs so not as many people know
about it now." Now they just thought of him as that quiet, loner
bronzerider.
Riveth chuckled at the bronze, liking him more. }:We must make up for
their flaws.:{
She supposed if it didn't bother him that much...but it still seemed rude.
The silence started to weigh on her, so she blurted something out before
she could stop to analyze it.
"Do you think I'm just a shitty greenrider? I got myself and my dragon
hurt and now we can't be useful, and I'm not good at being fun or flighty
like other greens."
Kenirath turned from his ledge to regard Riveth with glowing eyes,
}:Yes, I agree.:{
"Of course you are not a shitty greenrider. You and Riveth are making
progress aren't you? And you shouldn't compare yourself to other
greenriders." D'kere had learned the hard way that comparing himself
to other bronzeriders only led to unhappiness, "Just do what makes you
happy."
"Flying Thread was all I wanted to do," she grumbled. "I wish I knew what
happiness was."
"What about this?" He stepped forward, cupped her face in his hands
and kissed her gently.
It wasn't what she expected from him. Their lips met and she felt a flush
of heat, a sensation that was different and better than what she'd been
feeling before with the brownrider. Her arms moved up to bring him closer.
D'kere deepened the kiss, encouraged by Talwynn's response. One hand
skimmed down her neck while the other twined into her hair. This was
what D'kere had been wanting to do with Talwynn ever since they had
gone fishing together.
His hands on her body made the warmth rise higher, and she nipped at his
lip as he deepened it. He tasted a little like alcohol, not that she was
probably any better after the ale she'd had.
On the ledge, Riveth let out a pleased croon. }:I think they understand.:{
"Will you stay?" she asked when they broke for air.
Every nerve in D'kere's body was standing on end, his blue eyes dark
with lust as he looked down into Talwynn's smokey grey eyes, "Yes."
Kenirath let out a slow exhale, his version of a human sigh, }:Took
them long enough.:{
She took his hand and led him back towards her bed. "Good."
