"Parale?" Ioven croaked, turning his head towards his lightly snoring
wife. The soft sounds Parys were making were obviously not enough to
rouse her from her exhausted sleep, but they had somehow infiltrated his
dreams and brought him awake. If she didn't get attention soon, Ioven
knew she'd use her powerful lungs to make her presence known. He did
have work in the morning, but then again, he was well aware Parale's
work never ended. **Guess it's just my turn,** he thought as he slipped
out from under the light sheet that had been covering him and padded
over to the bassinet in the corner.

"Come on, little one," he said softly, leaning down to pull her to his
shoulder. "Let's let your mother sleep a little longer, eh?"

He took her out into the living area and turned the lights on low. As
he paced back and forth, patting her back, Ioven smiled as he remembered
similar nights with Venrys and Syren. Hard to believe they had ever
been this tiny. It felt nice to have a baby around their home again,
bringing back so many happy memories. And watching his two girls react
in wonder at everything their new little sister did just warmed his
heart. He was glad Parale had become pregnant so quickly, and while he
had hoped for a boy, he had to admit, he loved having daughters.

When walking just wasn't enough any longer, he laid her out on a blanket
on the floor and stretched out beside her. Shaking a toy rattle over
her for the little baby to watch, he propped his head up on his arm with
a sleepy smile. When it became obvious she was just as much entertained
by looking around at the world around them, his eyes began to grow
heavy, listening to the sounds of her coos. Soon, they were closing,
first for a long blink, then for a couple seconds, then for half a
minute. And then...

Parale had been sleeping soundly when she heard a noise and immediately
woke up with that ability that new parents have. It sounded like a baby.
Yawning, she rolled over to find the bed empty and the bassinet empty as
well. Ioven was probably changing Parys or something. Shrugging it off, she
walked into the living area and immediately found her baby in the floor with
her husband. Parys had gone back to sleep and was sort of half curled around
Ioven's hand. Shaking her head, she bent down and picked up the child before
she put one of her toes to the small of his back. "Silly man," she half
smiled.

"Huh?" He was startled awake, and immediate looked around for the baby
that was supposed to be right there. Realizing someone was hovering
over him, he looked up into his wife's face. "Oh... Sorry... I must
have dozed off there."

"Go get in bed if you're tired. She's ready to go back down anyway. And
me too. I think I have about two good candlemarks until it's time for
breakfast." And she horded those precious moments of rest. Then again,
seeing him lying there like that, all splayed out in the half light was
enough to wonder if he might could stay awake long enough. It would only
take a few minutes maybe...

"Yeah, I'm up..." he said, though only rolled over onto his back. "I'll
be there in a minute. I just have to clean all this up."

"Clean what up? The blanket can stay. It isn't hurting anything..."
There might have a been a little wheedling tone in her voice. And there
might have been just a little hint of something in the way she held her body
above him and eyed his chest.

"Well, there's the toys I got out, and..." It dawned on him. "Oh...
Right, well, I guess the girls won't be up for a while." That made him
sit up at least!

"No...I mean if you're sleepy, we can sleep but I thought just a few
minutes perhaps...I always sleep better after." That was true enough. She
had already begun taking Parys back into the bedroom to lay her back down.

"If it helps you sleep..." he said innocently as he hopped up to his
feet, suddenly feeling much more awake and alert. One nice thing about
Parale, she didn't always make him work too hard! "We'll have to be
careful not to wake the baby, though."

"I think we can manage that." With the little one safely tucked in, Parale
hurried out of her nightgown and pulled herself back into bed, flopping over
onto her back with arms out.
