Thessia smirked a little as she watched Felyna in the mirror, "Milady,
I don't think your hair could be any more perfect." The
lady-in-waiting was wearing her riding skirts, and had her thick,
mahogany hair pulled back into a single braid. There was a riding crop
swinging idly from her gloved hands as she waited for the younger
woman.
Felyna peered over her shoulder at Thessia and tilted her head
sideways. "Do you think so Thessia? With Erassa moved out of the
Suite, I find even more reason to look my best for my husband. Its
important to remind him of what he still _has_ so he doesn't go
wandering. Its challenging... " With a faint sigh, she set her
brush down and turned from the mirror to look at her favorite lady in
waiting.
"Thessia, what on Pern is _wrong_ with me that I cannot keep my
husband in my own bed? Shards!" Then she blushed for swearing.
Felyna, almost all of the time, kept her emotions hidden from everyone
she encountered. Except potentially her husband. It was all part
of the "perfect wife, perfect life, perfect marriage" image she wished
the Hold to believe.
But Thessia had proven herself as a friend and occasionally, the older
Lady saw the depths of her Lady Holder in ways few others were ever
priveleged to see.
"Look at me.. I'm smart, beautiful, and completely devoted to him in
bed and out of bed. What more could the man possibly want that a
foster mother could give him?" Another soft sign, though it was
clear she was somewhat passionate about her topic, she was also not
about to let her emotions completely run away with her.
She was the Lady of the Hold, after all.
Thessia lifted her shoulders, "Darlin," she said in her low drawl, "he
is a man and that is what they do. I have met very few men that did
not have a wandering eye, even though what they had at home was
perfectly good. The problem is not with you, the problem is with him."
She said in her matter-of-fact fashion. The woman hated the way
Corowal's behavior made Felyna feel, even if the Lady did do a good
job of hiding it from everyone else, Thessia could easily imagine how
your husband's quite public affair would make you feel. And
furthermore, if Erassa had any character or integrity at all she would
tuck tail and go elsewhere like a good woman should. Going after a
married man like that.
"Hopefully a nice ride will help clear your mind."
One of her lovely smiles curved its way onto her face. "Dear Thessia.
You always know just what to say." The green in her eyes was
nicely set off by her riding habit, but she wore functional - not so
pretty - boots. She was an avid fan of riding, and her favorite
runner demanded her full attention when they went on rides. That
included functional boots that kept her in the saddle and not out of
it.
"You are right, really. But I've made a lifetime habit out of being
_so_ good that wandering should never come into the head of my
husband. " She shook her head. "But I knew who he was when I married
him, and would not necessarily mind the wandering _if_ he had kept it
secret. The bloody man." She made a vexed sound.
"I told him I'd even let him have Erassa if thats what it took... but
then I made a fatal mistake." She settled her shoulders and turned
toward the door so they could go to the stables.
"When I lost my son..our son... Felwal...." her voice still made his
name sound like the most hopeful of things, the most beautiful of
things. ".... he was amazing. And I fell in love with him.
Stupid. Love has no place in a marriage like ours. But there it
is... and here I am..... prattling on like I've no more sense than a
canine."
"And that is just another reason why I never married. Do you think
Corowal sits around and worries about love and your relationship?"
Thessia snorted, "No, men never do. They fancy foot around and leave
the woman to bear the weight of all the problems it brings." The
brunette opened the door, "But runners never cheat." She winked.
Felyna's spirited laugh followed them out the door. She indeed felt
better, but she still wondered if Corowal would ever feel about her
the way she felt about him.
