The women that he had left.

Characters: Arilanna, D'wrayt
Description: Arilanna comforts D'wrayt after the death of Weyrwoman Jaela.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 9, day 6 of Turn 3

D'wrayt was in a state of shock. The keening had stopped, but the echoes of the dreadful sound still resonated through his mind. It was a very different sound that had marked the passing of the senior queen and her rider. One that the Weyrleader was likely to not forget.

The drills were over out of respect for the passing of their Weyrwoman.
He needed the comfort of a woman who knew him as well as Jaela had. He had seen the still, lifeless form of his Weyrwoman and didn't want to be alone at the moment.

On his way out of the infirmary he ran into just the lady he wanted to see. "Arilanna." he said calling her name to get her attention. She was so beautiful in such a different way than Jaela was, had been, he reminded himself.

"D'wrayt," Arilanna said softly, reaching up and placing a hand on his cheek, "I'm so sorry."

"Are you busy?" he asked as he put his hand against hers.

"Never for you." she replied with a sad smile. He had been her comfort the last few months after her fallout with J'klin, and now it was her turn to be a comfort for him, if he let her.

"Will you come stay with me?" he asked feeling as lost as he had been the day he lost his weyrmate only a few turns ago.

"Of course."

"Thank You." he said taking her hand as they walked to his weyr. He was glad that it was not that far from the infirmary, but saddened as he remembered that Jaela's weyr was only a few doors down from his. He shook his head and resolved to pay more attention to the women that he had left in his life, including his daughters.

Treadoryth was on his couch when they entered, but the bronze didn't even acknowledge their presence. He was still mourning the loss of his mate.
He understood that his rider needed the comfort of another, but he preferred to be alone.

"I had sent for some wine, would you like a glass?" he asked while pouring himself a glass.

Arilanna set down on the couch, she had spent enough evenings and mornings in D'wrayt's weyr to feel completely comfortable, and tried to make herself relax. "Please, and thank you." She took the glass as he handed it too her and once he had found a seat on the couch, she moved her body up against his, resting her head against his shoulder, offering what comfort she could with that touch.

"I've been losing someone I'm close to before, but this time it's different. This time I've got Treadoryth's saddness increasing my own feelings as well as the emotions of every other dragon in this Weyr. I've got a headache and I don't want to drown myself in wine again either. How have you been, Ari?" he asked realizing he had been so wrapped up in his feelings that he had entirely forgotten to inquire about her own state of being.

She looked up at him, slightly confused as to why he would be asking about her, "I'm fine D'wrayt, but how are you holding up?"

"There's so much I need to do to keep this Weyr running. I miss her just as much as I miss Eknaryi, the girls' mother and my first love. I know it will get better in time, but tonight I only want to be with you." he replied his voice tinged with sadness.

Arilanna reached up with her free hand and pulled his head down for a gentle kiss. "I think everyone in the Weyr will understand your need to mourn, you and Treadoryth were doubly hit and no one will begrudge you anthing if you let things slide for a few days." She sat her wine glass down on the table and looked over at her lover and friend, "Now that you've had something to drink, how about you lay down over on the bed and I'll give you a nice long massage to relax you even more."

"mmm....I think I'd like that very much." he replied obliging her request to move to the bed. He enjoyed her massages completely and that seemed just the thing to make him forget the pain for awhile. Especially since there were other things they could do once he was relaxed.
