Description: Paetri isn't a good patient, but J'kri helps.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 1 of Turn 7
The last person the healers had ever expected to be stubborn about
treatment was Paetri. The young quiet woman apparently did not want to
stay off of her leg and the journeyman tending to her was on about to
lose patience. "You have to stay off of it for a few days so it can
heal, weyrling. "
"I can walk fine. Camilth wants me with her. She's hurt worse than I
am." There was a trace of exasperation in her voice. "Just give me a
crutch please."
"Knock knock!" J'kri called as he peeked around the corner.
Her head immediately swung to the voice and her face showed immediate
relief. "J'kri..." She rose unsteadily on her good leg before being
pushed gently back down. "Would you tell him that I have to be with
Camilth?"
J'kri looked over at the healer, who seemed none too pleased. "You
should follow the healer's orders."
Paetri apparently was not a good patient. She cared for others easily
enough, but was growing steadily frustrated by her own injuries. "I
know that, but Camilth needs me right now." She huffed. "If I just had
a crutch, I could go rest with her. She's hurt worse than I am."
"Does she have to stay in bed or is Paetri just supposed to stay off
her leg?" J'kri asked the healer.
"She needs to keep all weight off of it for at least a sevenday. It
needs to heal. She's simply not patient enough to wait for a crutch."
Paetri flushed a little and looked at J'kri. "I wanted to go to Camilth."
"Would it be okay if I carried her?" J'kri looked between the healer
and Paetri. He'd want to be close to Rademerth if his blue was injured
and had an idea of how hard this might be for Paetri.
The healer slowly nodded. "If you can make sure she keeps her weight
off it, yes." He turned away and missed Paetri childishly sticking
her tongue out at him.
As he walked way, Paetri quickly stood up, bearing most of her weight
on her good leg. "Thank Faranth. Camilth has been asking for me for
over a candlemark." She ran a hand over her hair, still mussed from
her flight helmet.
J'kri scooped her up carefully. "Stay off that leg," he scolded.
Paetri gave an 'eep' as he scooped her up and then sighed, not
fighting. "It doesn't even hurt." And it didn't. The numbweed helped
with that. Her main concern was Camilth. "I can walk."
"_Can_ and _should_ are two different things," he said as he turned
and made his way down the aisle. "If you don't let yourself heal it'll
just take longer." As a dragonhealer apprentice, she should know that.
But his father liked to say that healers could be the worst patients.
A cute little pout formed on her lips, a rare look for her. "Oh, I
know. I just don't like it. I've never been hurt badly before. " She
suddenly wiggled in his arms, nestling up to his chest. "But I like
this."
"Being carried in the arms of a handsome rider? Yeah, I bet." He
laughed. The exit was just ahead.
"Just one particular handsome rider." She rested her head on his
shoulder and sighed. "But I'll be better soon. Then you can chase me
around the weyr and I can pretend I'm trying to get away."
"Ooh, I can't wait." He was already picturing it. They made it to the
dragon infirmary moments later and he looked around for Camilth.
"She's over there." Paetri pointed to Camilth, who laid on the side of
the infirmary, but perked up her head as Paetri pointed to her. She
gave a croon of greeting.
}: Where is Rademerth? I want Rademerth too. :{
Paetri smiled and looked up at J'kri. "It appears she wants all of us."
Summoned by the green, Rademerth came down off the heights. "He'll be
here in a moment." J'kri gave Paetri a serious look. "If you promise
to sit, I'll put you down next to her."
"Oh fine. I promise." There was a slight pout to her mouth, but also a
smile. Despite her complaints, she was glad to have been carried; it
would have hurt her to walk all this way.
Camilth wiggled on the infirmary couch, stretching her neck out to get
closer. }: Come closer. I want you close. :{
**I'm coming, Camilth.**
J'kri reached the dragon and set Paetri carefully down so she was
sitting with her legs stretched out, leaning against Camilth's
foreleg. The poor green had bandages all over and her color was off.
Camilth crooned as Paetri was set down beside her, then thrust her
head forward to nuzzle J'kri gently in the side for thanks. }: Mine.
:{ She lowered her head to Paetri, settling her head near her rider.
Paetri immediately began stroking her, the tension she didn't realize
she was carrying easing immediately. She looked up at J'kri. "Thank
you." Her eyes were soft. "I love you, you know that?"
"I do. And I love you, too." It made him feel warm all over.
Rademerth waddled through the infirmary and settled on his haunches
next to Camilth. }:I am here.:{ He nudged her side. }:You will be well
soon and then you will sun with me. There are many pretty greens but I
like you more.:{
That made J'kri laugh. "He's declaring his affections, in his own special
way."
"She's fine with that, apparently." Camilth snuggled up to Rademerth,
closing her eyes and obviously far more at ease. Her color slowly
brightened as she was surrounded by those she cared about the most.
"Come sit with us for a while."
He settled on Paetri's other side, reaching behind her to give Camilth
a pat. "They were easier to cuddle with when they were smaller." He
slipped his arm around Paetri's waist.
