Demir

Demir

Demir sat in his fathers office. He'd looked through the drawers and
gone over the files he'd found But it still didn't really feel like
his yet. Everywhere he looked he saw his father. From the beast
paintings he'd commissioned from a harper artist to the fine grained
wood of his desk. But it was in a small drawer he found the key.

He held it now in his hands and turned it over and over. Thinking
back, he remembered a time when he was young and his grandfather was
alive. This key had been on a chain around the old man's neck. He took
the chain from the drawer and was about to thread it through the key
when he heard the knock on the door.

"Come in," he called and dropped the key back in the drawer and closed it.

"Welcome back, Demir. How did your trip go?" Mirdella greeted, stepping in.

He hadn't really had time to catch up with his sister since he'd
returned so he stood and walked around his desk to greet her with a
kiss on the cheek. "It went well," he smiled. "I wanted to thank you
for the job you and Mirdello did on the memorial for father."

"Thank you, Demir," Mirdella said with graceful nod. "I wanted to talk
you about that..."

"Of course," he said holding a chair for her in front of his desk.
Mirdella sat down. "Sisellah was supposed to do the preparations for
the ceremony, but she pushed most of it for me to do. Now, I don't
mind that, but she also threatened to evict me out of my home. I've
lived in that suite since I married Inarys," Mirdella complained.

Demir sat on the corner of his desk looking concerned. "I won't let
that happen Mirdella. She is still managing the household until I
acquire a wife," he said with a little wince at the end. "But that
does not mean she can make that kind of decisions without my
blessing."

He put out a hand to her shoulder. "Alright?"

"Alright," Mirdella nodded. "Thank you, you made a stone roll off my heart."

"I'm glad," he said and patted her shoulder before walking back around
his desk. "Did you say that you actually did most of the work with
Mirdello? That Sisellah really didn't do much?"

"I did the decorations and wrote invitations, Mirdello helped to send
them. What was left to her? Overseeing the staff and preparing the
menu," Mirdella replied.

"Well thank you for your help then Mirdella. I know father would have
appreciated it." His smile for her was soft and loving. He really felt
his sister more than capable of running his household and should
Sisellah continue to stir up trouble he might just have to make
adjustments. But before he did that he wanted to talk to her and see
how she felt and what her plans were.

"How is everyone coping?"

Mirdella sighed sadly. "We're grieving. The older children miss their
grandpa terribly, the younger ones don't really understand he's gone
forever. They expect him to come back."

Demir understood completely. "I know it's supposed to get better but
sometimes that's hard to believe. I hope the issues with Sisellah are
just her dealing with her own grief. But I promise I'll talk to her."

Mirdella nodded although, what she really wanted was to snort
sarcastically. She had had issues with Sisellah since the day their
father married her.

"Alright then," he smiled. "The is one thing you can help me with." He
leaned forward. "Find me a wife."

"Happy to," Mirdella replied with a smile. What an opportunity! She
would find the most unsuitable candidates to present for Demir.
