Description: Relik checks out how Uegot is doing.
Location: Seacraft Hall
Date: month 6, day 4 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Kaphrad
Between working with Kaphrad and his invention and then going to Iron Lake,
overseeing construction, and visiting with the Hold folk and others,
Relik had not yet had time to check in with some of his folk. On his list
was Uegot. The man and his family had settled some time ago and he wanted
to make sure that everything was going well and Uegot felt useful.
They didn't have many apprentices just yet since they were still building
everything, so there weren't proper courses. However, some of the journeymen
and Masters were developing curriculum for when that day came.
Uegot was going through the materials he was going to need when the proper
teaching started.
Walking through the doorway, as was his wont since it was his Hall, Relik
was pleased to see that Uegot was hard at work. That was a good sign.
"Journeyman, how are you doing on this fine day?"
"Just fine, thank you," Uegot replied, lifting his eyes from his inventory.
"Wanted to say fine work. Is everyone settling in allright?" Relik walked
by and pulled out a chair to sit in.
"Yes, sir," Uegot nodded and turned his attention to Relik.
"And what do you think about the Hall? Is it what you expected?" Relik knew
it was far from finished but things were taking shape now and he wanted
input from his people. They would be working here, living here, and
learning here.
"It's not finished yet," Uegot remarked. "The family quarters are nice."
"Not it's not finished yet exactly. Still, I think when it is the
possibilities will be endless. So when it is, do you want to be a classroom
teacher or more of a practical sort?" Relik was curious to hear that since
there were several options.
"Bit of both, actually. You can teach only so much navigation in class
room, then you have take them out and see if they can actually apply the
theory into practice," Uegot answered. Not everyone could navigate, since
it did require head for maths.
"Good. I would like to see more practical teaching for certain. You can
have them go up and down the coast in that little skiff." The plan was to
use it for training anyway. For now, the Master was using it for runs to
the Hold since it was quicker that way.
Uegot nodded. "We need to order more copies of books from Printers," he
then suggested.
"Make a list of how many and I'll send it on to the harper hall." Relik
himself still had not yet moved his own family over. They would be coming
soon though. "Where did you come from Uegot? I was trying to recall..."
"Far Island, we're old seacrafter/fishcrafter bloodline with connections to
Weyrs. My father is master fishcrafter," Uegot replied.
"Oh that's good. I've been meaning to get in touch with the fishcrafters in
the area and see if we can lend them a hand in any way. Maybe you could
help with that?" It might give the journeyman a way to make himself a bit
more useful as well and when it came promotion time, Relik would remember
that.
"Sure do," Uegot replied with his customary curtness.
"Well I'll let you get back to work then but if you have any ideas, let
Kaphrad or me know." Relik was open to some things as long as they meant an
improvement to the craft.
"All right," Uegot nodded. If helping Relik meant he could visit his
relatives in Far Island, he would be more than happy to help.
