R'axe blinked for a moment as his eyes studied the girl in the
dragonhealer infirmary. Dark hair, and eyes with greenrider shoulder
knots.
}:Bit young for someone as long in the tooth as you, don't you
think?:{ Jayth bumped into his thoughts snidely.
**You are no spring hen, my dear.** R'axe replied but a smile was
curling his lips at his blue's remark. He wasn't studying this girl
because he had any sort of romantic inclinations towards her, but he
believed that he recognized her. If his guess was right, it had been
her green that had risen when R'axe and managed to snatch up J'kri for
a great round of "losers sex". That's what he liked to call it,
anyway, when you didn't catch the green but still scored a great bed
partner.
"You are J'kri's Paetri, aren't you?" He finally spoke.
Paetri finished cleaning the small scratch on the flit and patted it.
It wouldn't need a bandage. Wiping her hands, she turned at the voice
and blinked, pulling her long braid over her shoulder. She considered
the man with a slightly furrowed brow as she tried to place him, but
couldn't. "I'm Paetri, yes. Can I help you?"
R'axe extended his hand to Paetri, "I'm R'axe, my Jayth flew in your
flight... and not well might I add." Just as he had expected a
disgruntled dragon warble greeted him over those words. He chuckled,
"He loves it when I do that."
R'axe...Her brows rose immediately. She recognized that name and her
cheeks reddened as she took his hand. "Oh..yes. R'axe. J'kri spoke
very uhm...kindly of you." Raved about him more like and hoped that
Camilth would choose his blue if Rademerth didn't win her next flight.
"I'm sure your Jayth did his best."
"He flew well, but J'kri was a very nice consolation prize." R'axe
grinned at that, his eyes taking in the color that rose on her cheeks,
"You and J'kri are.. involved?" He got the feeling that he should talk
a little more polite than he would had Paetri been a seasoned
greenrider.
"J'kri and I..." She exhaled, wondering how to define it, and like she
had told J'kri earlier, found she couldn't. Calling him a boyfriend
sounded so childish, especially when she considered him definitely a
man. "We're involved, yes. But he's also my best friend. Why?"
The bluerider raised his shoulders, "I was just curious. It's a very
fortunate thing to find best friends in the Weyr." R'axe thought that
they came few and far between. Most people were to worried about who
was sleeping with whom.
Her head tilted to the side and she looked at him. He was an
attractive man; she could see why J'kri had been interested. "But why
were you curious?"
R'axe flashed a grin, "I like to know how people are connected, is
all. The last thing I ever try to step into is some icky relationship
where some woman, or man, is going to be glaring at me every time I
try to sit down in the cavern and have a cup of klah." He held up a
hand, "Not that I thought you would, any means, it is just a
precaution I take. Drama gives you gray hair, and I have no room for
that in this head." He pointed to his hair.
She mused about that, then nodded. "I guess I could understand that.
The only reason I would glare at you is if you hurt him." She paused.
"In a bad way."
This made the blonde throw his head back and laugh, "Oh my! Well, you
never have to worry about me hurting him in the bad way then." R'axe
winked, "I only know how to be good."
Her cheeks reddened again and she cleared her throat. "Well..ahem..he
certainly had no complaints. Except when he sat down wrong."
R'axe laughed again, "Good, that's what I like to hear then." He
studied the tint of her cheeks, "You're not weyrbred are you?"
She flushed brighter. "I guess it's pretty obvious."
"It is a bit, but I think it is very refreshing to meet a woman who
blushes still." He smiled.
She gave a wry smile, but the color remained on her cheeks. "Then I
must be like ice water on a hot day."
"Exactly." R'axe's studied Paetri before saying, "Now that we both
know each other, perhaps Jayth will do a better job of chasing your
green next time." Another affronted bugle from his dragon sounded
outside.
}:Forget about /between/, I'm pooping in the weyr next time.:{ Jayth
told R'axe, to which R'axe had to choke back a laugh.
Paetri flushed brighter. "Perhaps." He was attractive...
