Description: Rademerth continues his quest to learnodeth, Rademerth how to catch greens.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 6, day 12 of Turn 7
}:Jodeth, can you tell me how to catch greens?:{ Rademerth asked in
the best polite voice he could manage. }:Branth says you have caught
many.:{
The brown turned his head to the young blue, considering the question.
}:This is indeed true and is likely for many reasons. Every dragon has their
own tricks. What may work for me may not work for you.:{ Jodeth was quiet
as he thought about what to tell the young one. }:Rademerth, greenflights
are always shorter so you blues have a chance. You can also keep up with
them better than we can since you're faster. Blues are very successful
flatterers:{
}:Branth said I should say nice things to the green. So that works?:{
He didn't really know how to compliment others.
}:Depends on the green. Some like flattery, some don't. After all you could
be all talk and no action:{ Jodeth himself wasn't much of a talker. He was more
of a strategist. He also had a reputation which helped, from
experience. }:Sometimes you can win by strategy:{
The blue's eyes whirled faster. }:Strategy, yes! I like that. Can you
teach me? Is it like Threadfall formations?:{
}:Some dragons are better at it than others so we will see:{ Jodeth considered
for a moment, rustling his wings and shuffling his feet. The heavy
brown displaced a bit of rock
that fell down to the Bowl. }:It is more like trying to predict a
green's movements
and using other things to give you an advantage. To make yourself seem
better than the
others.:{
}:I _am_ better,:{ Rademerth insisted.
}:If you were, you would have won:{ Jodeth answered matter-of-factly.
The blue snorted. He couldn't think of an argument. }:I need to learn.:{
}:Allright youngling, lesson one. Always let the green think they are
better even when
they are not. Lesson 2 get familiar with the moves of a green so you
can predict them:{
Jodeth thought that was enough to start with.
}:Let the green think they are better,:{ Rademerth repeated. }:Is that
what flattering is?:{
}:Flattering is telling them. You can let them think it is so without telling
them though:{ That way, if you weren't good with your words, you still had
a chance.
Rademerth tilted his head. }:How do you do that?:{
}:Well you can use your body language. You can use feats of acrobatics to
Impress them. You can bring them things. Simply giving them attention goes a
long way:{ Jodeth was a fan of that. If you cultivated a female long enough, it
paid off.
Rademerth's eyes whirled faster. }:Camilth likes acrobatics. She
watches Cerillith and talks to her all the time. Cerillith is a very
good flier.:{
}:Oh aye she is. I catch Cerillith:{ He said that with quite a bit of
pride. She was
one of his favorites. It also helped that his rider seemed to want the
excuse to get
her rider into the furs, but Jodeth didn't bother with all of that.
The blue was impressed and made a little trill. }:You must be very good, then.:{
}:I have also lived many more turns than you, Rademerth. Practice makes better:{
Indeed Jodeth did have the benefit of practice.
}:Then I will practice until I am as good as you.:{ Rademerth still
believed he was the best dragon ever, but he realized there were some
things he could get better at.
The young were always exuberant. Jodeth had mellowed some with the
turns. Now, the
brown was more concerned with threadfighting, wing duties, and other
issues. Still, greenflights
were a fact of life that he enjoyed. }:You do that. Let me know how it goes.:{
}:I will.:{ He would try to catch all the greens he could, and when
Camilth rose again, he would catch her for sure!
