Characters: Chupsin, Chaysea, Sinla
Description: The three of them watch the Hatching.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 6, day 6 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Genna, Makarl

Despite everything, Chupsin had made good
on his promise. It was
Genna's first Hatching and there was a gold egg on the
sands and all
that. He didn't know but somewhere in the back of his mind he
knew his
niece would be as good as any or better. She was strong and smart
and
would be good for the Weyr. Helping his sisters down from the
dragon,
he led them into the Hatching Cavern where they found a seat.
There
were quite a few there and he couldn't help but look for folk he
knew.
"I hope she doesn't get disappointed terribly."

Chaysea smiled
at her brother. He could be so pessimistic sometimes.
Chaysea hoped her niece
walked away that day with a dragon, no matter
the color. She wished she had
had Genna's spunk when she was younger
and had gone to the Weyr to pursue a
career as a healer crafter. Life
had gone differently for Chaysea, and now
she had to live with it. "I
am sure she will do fine, Chupsin."

"Of
course she will be fine," Sinla commented proudly. She had raised
her well,
hadn't she? Part of her wondered if her being there was such
a good idea, but
Makarl had insisted. "A girl needs her mother when it
comes to emotional
stuff like Impressing or not. I will stay here with
the children," he'd said.
Well, maybe it was a good time to start
making amends.

Once the
humming began and the eggs started to move, it was only a
matter of time. He
could see the girls clustered around the gold egg
and he was trying to pick
Genna out. Tourniquet was off somewhere
humming with the other firelizards so
he was no help. Then, finally,
he saw her in her white robe. "Ah there she
is." Pointing, he watched
as several of the candidates Impressed. It was
nothing he had ever
aspired to, though some might have said the journeyman
might have made
a good bronzerider. No he wanted to be a Master Healer or
even
Masterhealer, though he never told anyone that. Eggs continued to
rock
and split open, revealing dragonets. So far Genna was still on the
Sands.

"Where?" Sinla rose from her seat to look in the direction Chupsin
was
pointing. "Oh. I see her now!" she squeezed his arm in
excitement.
Even though she was still against everything the Weyr represented
for
a little girl, maybe if she impressed, she would be alright here.
"No
dragon's looking at her yet, right?" she asked as she looked back
at
Chaysea for confirmation.

"Not yet." Chaysea said, her voice a bit
preoccupied as she craned
around the woman in front of her, who had an
annoyingly tall hair-do.
Her eyes remained glued on the Hatching. It was the
first one she had
ever seen and she was fascinated by it. The baby dragons
were just so
beautiful and the cavern rafters lined with majestic adult
dragons was
breath taking.

As others continued to Impress, Chupsin
began to wonder. Most riders
never Impressed at their first Hatching though.
He just hoped Genna
would be okay if it didn't happen now. And then after so
much time,
the queen egg seemed to be Hatching. He watched as the golden
dragonet
appeared and then something happened. Something happened. **Oh
my
shells she's done it!** He couldn't help it. Despite usually being
so
dignified, he stood up right then and watched, trying to see.
It
couldn't be, but it was! She was leading the queen off the
Sands.
"Faranth, Sinla, she's a queenrider! She's a queenrider.
She
Impressed. Gold. At her First Hatching. That's my niece!" he
shouted
just in case the rest of the crowd there didn't know. **Proves what
I
knew all along. Our Blood is better.**

Sinla's eyes grew wide with
surprise. She may have hoped, but she
hadn't expected this. They had
explained to her Genna's chances
weren't all too great, it being only her
first hatching. But she _had_
impressed. And impressed the gold!

"Oh
my," Sinla embraced Chaysea in an attempt to hide her tears. Maybe
now Genna
would forgive her.

Chaysea gave her sister a squeeze as they embraced.
The Headwoman
found tears in her own eyes as she pulled back, "Come on, let's
go
find her. She should know that her family was here and
supporting her."

"Wait till it's done. The Weyrlingmasters will have
to settle her dragonet first
before she can go to the feast. I imagine the
Weyrleaders will probably want to
meet her too." Genna was now the Weyr's, no
longer theirs really. Chupsin knew
that. "Maybe...you women would like to
freshen up?" He could see the
tear streaks on their faces and knew Sinla
might be talking to important people.

Sinla grimaced slightly. That
didn't seem like a bad idea. She sat
back down in her seat, though, to wait
for the rest of the hatching to
finish. It didn't seem polite to walk out
while there were still
dragons hatching. "When it's done, yes, please," she
replied before
looking back at Genna as she disappeared from
sight.
Chaysea sighed, telling herself to be patient. It just wasn't every
day
that some little girl from the hold showed up at the Weyr and
Impressed a
gold dragon. That the girl happened to be a part of
Chaysea's family made her
heady with pride, but she knew that
etiquette demand that they way until
Genna had accepted the
pleasantries of the Weyrfolk, after all, she could be
their leader one day.

"Then, I guess we wait." She gave a small smile and
took a seat beside of Sinla.
