Notes2: Anyone up for adopting Khadir, Onala, or Luris? Coposts?
Eneri opened the door to a flurry of couch cushions. A naked young man, who
couldn't have been a day over twenty jumped up from the couch and stared at
her, open-mouthed.
"I-I'm sorry, ma'am," he stammered and covered himself with a pillow.
A wry grin turned up one corner of her mouth.
"Don't worry. It's nothing I haven't seen before."
He blushed and scurried off to the wash room.
"Must you chase off all of my fun?" Khadir asked, standing up from the
couch, still nude.
Eneri raised her eyebrows at him accusingly before hanging up her coat.
"He is very young," she reprimanded in a hushed tone.
"Old enough to know what's he doing," Khadir said with a grin of his own.
He stretched back and wiggled his thighs, waving his manhood at her.
"Put that away, or I'll cook it," Eneri threatened as she walked into the
kitchen.
Khadir burst out laughing just as his lover burst out of the bathroom,
properly dressed.
"Eneri, ever the dutiful housewife," Khadir teased.
"I'll get going," the apprentice offered.
"Oh no, stay for dinner," Eneri said. "We're having fingerroots and
sausage."
"Stop," Khadir mouthed at her with a smile. He caught the apprentice under
one arm and caught his chin with his other hand, sweeping the young man
into a kiss.
"I'll walk you out and spare you from my wife," he offered.
"I'm sure she's harmless."
"Oh no, I bite," Eneri assured him, intentionally slicing a fingerroot in
half.
Khadir shook his head at her as he showed his lover out.
"I take it your tryst with Onala went poorly?" He asked, closing the door
behind the apprentice.
"A little short, perhaps, but not poorly at all," she smiled, pinning the
sliced fingerroots between the knife and one hand and sliding them into a
buttered pan. Eneri set the entire ensemble onto the flat of the coalstove.
"How was your time with the apprentice... what's his name?"
"Luris," he said, buckling the suspenders of his pants over the shoulders
of his white shirt. The ensemble fit him nicely and accented the muscle of
his body well. Khadir pulled his long black ponytail out of the collar of
his shirt and came to help her in the kitchen.
"And our time was very enjoyable."
"I'm glad," Eneri said with a grin.
"How are the children doing?" Khadir asked, washing his hands. Eneri
glanced over at him and left the ring of sausage on the counter, moving to
rinse off greens at the wash basin. Butter sizzled along the fingerroots
and Khadir gave the pan a quick stir before chopping the sausage into thin
slices.
"Full of piss and energy, as always," Eneri said. "Anadalon's firelizard
killed some unsuspecting animal, and Olanda brought it home for dinner. I
suspect Onala will be airing Andalon's skin at the clothesline the next
time I see her."
Behind her, Khadir snorted and slid the chopping board of sliced sausage
into a skillet. Eneri took the cutting board and sliced both greens and an
onion to add to the meat, turning her head away to keep her eyes from
watering. Eneri crushed a garlic clove with the flat of the knife, and
picked the pungent meat out of the flaky skin, stirring it into the
sausage. The entire ensemble was sprinkled with a pinch of black pepper and
dried rosemary.
"Well, skinning him might work out in your favor," he suggested.
"Yes," Eneri chuckled. "I could just wear him around and conduct my affairs
in peace."
"If you think anything about being male creates peace, you are dead wrong,
my dear."
"It creates a lack of questions, where my interests are concerned," she
said.
"It does. For yours."
"Oh Khadir. We could just slip Larus right into one of the kitchen girl's
dresses. He is fair enough, and so shy."
"Be gentle with the boy, Eneri. He is young," Khadir said. "Though, I think
we've both had as much slipping into things as one can handle for a night. "
Eneri had just taken a drink of water and nearly choked. She shook her head
and stirred the sausage and vegetables around on the stove. The technician
wandered over to the pantry for a sprinkle of brown sugar and ground
klahbark to add to the carrots.
"Do you disagree?" Khadir asked her, with a teasing grin.
"No comment," Eneri smiled. "Though, dinner is ready. That is... if you
haven't had too much sausage already."
---
Eneri woke from fitful sleep. The rushes were too hard and the pillow too
soft. Neither change in position nor fluffing of bedding could make her
comfortable. With a sigh, the technician crept from beneath the furs to the
window, staring out at the cold sky. The stars were hidden tonight beneath
a thick blanket of clouds and rain sprawled as ice across the foggy glass.
Somewhere out there was Onala, curled against Andalon. Or was Onala as
restless and fitful as she was? For all the furs and heat, there was no
warmth in this cot right now. She wished more than anything that Andalon
had found reason to journey outside the Hold again, as he rarely did,
leaving her a free night with the only person she had ever loved.
"But I'm stuck with you," Eneri whispered, watching Khadir sleep, and
grinned. With a last glance out the window, she crept back into bed.
Khadir's thick black hair had fallen across her pillow. Swearing it had a
mind of its own, she tucked the thick locks behind his ear, only to find
him awake and looking at her. Eneri stared into his brown eyes. There was,
in that moment, a resolved sadness in them that caught her breath in her
throat.
"Couldn't sleep either?" She asked, slipping beneath the furs again.
Khadir partially rolled over and lifted one arm for Eneri to tuck
underneath. She sighed and wiggled closer to the one person in the world
who understood...just for the warmth.
