Description: After Paetri's accident J'darin's seeks comfort... but not from a bottle.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 4, day 25 of Turn 7
He had retreated to his weyr after the accident, thanking Faranth it
had only been an accident. He was shaking, though, and wanted a
drink. But that was not the answer. No, he knew the answer.
He was so glad he had gone to see Devyn yesterday. If he had not, he
would not be seeking her out now. Or maybe he would, but he
wouldn't be able to show her he was really .. with her. Show her
that he wanted to see her every day and have her in his life in every
way they could manage.
It made it easier to ask Hasaarth to bespeak Ellyth.
Would she be happy he wanted to see her again already, or not know
what to do with a bronzerider suddenly all over her life? He wasn't
sure really, if she did want to see him. But he felt ...better.
She had said YES after all! And she was going to become his weyrmate.
His weyrmate? He thought Kalina and Traelyn would both be laughing
their arses off at him with a weyrmate. His two goldrider "loves"
had watched him grow through some of the most horrible times in his
life and turn from the .. lets face it, jerk ... he'd been into the
man he was today. Both had played a role in his growth. And his
precious greenrider friend, Dyaera. She'd taught him more than
anyone, he thought.
**Hasaarth... I really want to see Ellyth's... can you ask her if we
can visit?**
}:She makes you happy. And Ellyth is lovely.:{ Simple reasoning
from a dragon. When would riders learn to listen to their dragons?
Devyn was pleasantly surprised when Ellyth told her that J'darin
wanted to come by. She hated to admit it but she still had a hard time
believing that she was going to be his weyrmate. Whenever they seemed
to take a step forward in their relationship they inevitably took two
steps back. His coming over was a good sign right? Or was he trying to
figure out how to get out of his 'weyrmate' thing?
}:We would love to have your company.:{ Ellyth replied back happily
without even consulting her rider.
**Thanks for asking.** Devyn thought sarcastically.
}:You want to see Hasaarth's rider anyway, silly.:{ The green pointed
out in her guileless manner.
Well, that was true Devyn reasoned. Rushing over to her mirror she ran
a brush through her hair, scrubbed her teeth quickly, and then dabbed
on some perfume. She had just raced to the door when she heard J'darin
knock, "Hey you." She said, swinging the door open.
Hasaarth had come to the ledge though J'darin had come through the
corridors. Hasaarth maintained he did not want to be away from his
rider tonight, not after what had happened today, and so they both
came to visit.
When she met him at the door, her welcome so different from last
night, he could not keep the smile from his face. Even as shaken up
as he was. Just seeing her seemed to offer healing of a different
sort.
"Hi beautiful." was what came out of his mouth, and he reached for
her. His face would show signs of care, though the smile that had
appeared had hidden that for a moment. He wanted to pull her to him
and just hold her.
He found himself at a loss for words for a moment.
Wrapping his arms around her, he said softly, "Thank you."
Devyn automatically returned the man's embrace, sliding her arms
around his trim figure, "For what?" She asked, tilting her head back
so that she could look up into the Weyrlingmaster's face. Ellyth had
not mentioned J'darin's visit being bad news, but one look at the
man's face told her that something was wrong. "Are you okay?"
Grateful she had forgiven him far enough to be comfortable in his arms
again, he said with a faint smile, "I am better now."
He kissed her cheek softly and stepped toward her couch. If he was
going to tell her, he wanted to be sitting for it. He expected he
might be about to expose his incredible vulnerability to her.
Sinking down, he rested his chin in his hand. He looked at her, and
finally said, "There was an accident today. During the weyrlings
first trips /between/. " He breathed in and out, trying to calm his
still strong worries. He had been near tears several times since he
had returned from the weyrlings, and the strain of holding his
emotions in was showing.
"..no one died. She just got lost. But it was close. So close."
his voice was tight and low.
His biggest fear is that he would lose one of the younglings. Like
last time.
He worried about losing one, just as well as he knew the chances were
good he _would_ lose one. It was an impossible job with impossible
regrets and feelings. But it was also a fantastic job that he was
honored to do.
Devyn sat down beside of J'darin, tucking her legs underneath her as
she reached out and took one of his larger hands in both of hers, "I
am glad she is okay." She gave the man's hand a squeeze, "I am sure it
was thanks to the training of her Weyrlingmaster that she managed to
make it." The greenrider knew that J'darin was a _good_
Weyrlingmaster. He was smart, experienced, and most importantly, he
cared about the young dragonriders. It was only natural for the
Weyrlingstaff to experience hard times when it came to training the
future generations of the Weyr.
He held her hand lightly, but closely, enjoying the feel of their
fingers entwined. He made a self-depreciating snort. "Oh my sweet
greenrider. If only I was that good! Hasaarth brought her home,
really. And I was so grateful for him. Just like I am grateful
for you." He brought her hand to his lips and kissed the back of it
lightly. Some of the reaction was fading, but he still felt too
tense for relaxation.
He gazed at Devyn for a long moment, not wanting to hide his desire,
his wish, from her.
"I can't seem to relax, though... " He paused, hoping she would not
misunderstand. "Could I talk you into a hot bath and some wine?" His
eyes darkened, not really wanting sex so much as he needed... comfort.
He had never really trusted anyone with all his secrets, all his
failures. But this young greenrider knew most of them already... and
yet she still let him in her weyr. And loved him.
"A bath and wine sound perfect. I'll grab some clean clothes."
Unfortunately being a greenrider did not afford Devyn he luxury of
having a private bathing pool, but she knew that there was one
attached to J'darin's quarters. Leaving the couch she made quick work
of picking out a tunic and a pair of breeches from her wardrobe.
Coming up behind the couch she bent and pressed her lips to J'darin's
ear, "Come on then, let's go have that bath."
Suddenly all the reasons he wanted Devyn for a weyrmate crystalized in
his mind and his heart and he grinned. He couldn't help it. The feel
of her lips against his ear made him shiver.
"Your wish is my command, my lady." A little cold to take the
dragons without gear he headed toward the door instead, his hand in
hers.
