Walls Are Up

Writers: AL, Chelle
Date Posted: 27th August 2013

Characters: Relik, Shertan
Description: The Hallmaster checks on his construction progress.
Location: Seacraft Hall
Date: month 2, day 18 of Turn 7

Shertan straightened and ran the back of his arm across his brow where
sweat trickled over his skin. His eyes studied the work he'd done,
the frame of a wall that was almost complete. It would then be lifted
and attached to another frame. Little by little, the Hall would come
together.

He paused for a moment to take a short break. It was hard work and he
fiddled with his flask, then took a long draw. It was just water, and
it helped ease his parched throat. Shertan leaned upon his knee and
gazed around at his fellow workers, all moving about like vtols on a
mission.

It was good to see, especially for a Master who was anxious to have his
facilities complete. The sooner construction was done, the quicker
they could be settled and put their minds to other things. Watching the
men, he sidled up and straddled one of the boards. "Looking good!"

"Careful sir!"? Shertan called out, then straightened to move over
to where the Master Craftsman stood. "There's stuff everywhere."

"Aye I can see that. So, how much longer do you think it'll be?" Relik
liked to look at things-to see how much progress had been made.

"Hard to say sir. We're working as fast as we can, but we're also not
cutting corners. We want to make sure everything is done well and
safely." Not doing so could mean catastrophe - cracks and lots of
repair work needed at based, people getting hurt or killed at worst.

"Right right I understand that. It's just exciting to see things taking shape.
You have everything you need right?" Relik always wanted to make sure of
that.

"For now. We'll be putting in an order for more wood and nails soon -
we'd order it all at once, but then there wouldn't be room to work."
Shertan gave the Hallmaster a half smile. "Things are on schedule as
planned thus far."

"Wonderful. I like on schedule. And all the finishing work can be done
later. I just need things up enough where we can come into it." Relik
could have a man inside doing that work, maybe two, little by little.

"All in its order, Master." Shertan could see the eagerness in the
Hallmaster's eyes. "We have to make sure the walls are finished first.
But as soon as we're ready to have the interior worked on, you'll be
the first to know."

"And the other buildings?" He knew the main building and the living quarters
were priority. Still, they might be getting somewhere on the others.

"We're concentrating on these for right now. Once we finish the living
quarters, we can move on to the secondary buildings." The Hallmaster
was eager, but Shertan knew there was only so much they could do.
Still, they were trying.

"But you've seen the plans?" The materials should have been
ordered at least, surely.

"Oh of course." Shertan nodded quickly. He didn't want the Hallmaster
to think they were slacking on the job. "And as soon as this section is
done, we'll be ready to start on the rest of it."

"Lovely. You'll let me know if you need anything right?" Sure these
men didn't directly report to him, but he didn't mind cutting across the
chain of command at times.

"You'll be kept in the loop at all times." Shertan assured the
Hallmaster. "I should get back to work, but feel free to look around -
carefully - and let us know if you have any other questions or concerns."
