Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 10, day 3 of Turn 3
Rigella couldn't understand how she had let it happen. Allowed her little sister drag her into this party. It was someone's birthday, that much she had understood. She didn't know the people or wasn't even sure who was the birthday hero. So, she ended up sitting in corner and drinking wine, getting gloomier. People kept refilling her glass so she
lost track how much she had drunk. Way too much anyway.
Birigundi finally peeled the greenrider from around his waist and laughingly sloshed into a corner chair. "Shards, what a party!" His head rolled enough that he could catch a glimps of the woman sitting next to her. His smile changed to one of confusion.
"Birigundi?" Rigella asked when the man sat next to her. _She_ wasn't surprised to see him.
He didn't think he had _ever_ seen her at a party before! "Rigella. Have you been hiding here all night?"
"Yesssh," Rigella replied, the slurred S betrayed how drunk she was.
"Well, are you enjoying yourself?" **For _once_?**
"No. Even my flit ish having fun when I'm not," the apprentice healer sounded weepy and self-pitying. She actually leaned towards Birigundi, probably because she was too drunk to stay upright.
"Well, why is it that you think you're not having any fun?" He had been around drunk women enough to know that leaning could be dangerous when they sobbered up. But then again, he was more likely to take risks when he was drunk, and so he leaned a little back.
"Do I look like having fun?" Rigella asked, looking depressed.
Birigundi looked at her for a moment. Finally he shook his head. "Not really. And you don't _sound_ like you're having fun either."
"That'sh right. Pleashe, take me away from here," Rigella looked him pleadingly.
"Seriously?" he asked skeptically. "Where do you want me to take you?"
"Out, I could ushe some fresh air."
"Uh..." Birigundi looked for someone, _anyone_ who could take Rigella out instead of him. But everyone was having such a good time... like he _should_ be having. "All right," he finally sighed. "Come with me."
Rigella stood and then sat down again when her legs turned out being wobbly. "My kneesh don't work," she giggled drunkenly. She got up on second attempt and cling to Birigundi's arm to stay up.
"Put your arm around my neck, Rigella." He slipped his arm under hers and around her back. As he was taller than her, he stood at rather an awkward angle. "Are you ok?"
"Yh-ym. This ish kind of fun," Rigella giggled. A green firelizard landed on her shoulder and studied Birigundi with her head cocked. After deciding he wasn't threath, editable or going to pet her, she settled down to more relaxed pose. "Have you met my flit? She called Fellis
Leaf."
"Oh really?" he asked half distracted as he supported the better part of her unsteady weight. "I have a flit named Leaf myself."
"A green too? We're unimaginitive people." She was slowly getting stedier, maybe the exercise was burning off the alcohol. But she realized she liked being this close to the young man.
"Well, it fits at least," he muttered as he steered her around an amorus couple on their way to the door.
They received few leers and knowing winks on their way. "I'm going to regret thish, come morning," Rigella muttered when they reached the hallway.
"I hope you are the only one," Birigundi said as he steered her down the hallway. "Are you sure you want to go outside? Its cold and you have no jacket."
"I have shome much alcohol in my blood I won't feel the cold," Rigella replied.
He rolled his eyes. "Just so long as you don't mistake me for a blanket..."
"Why not? Would that be so awful?" she actually snuggled little closer.
"But I'm too drunk for anything."
**Thankfully...** "Well, if you get cold, we can just come back inside, all right?"
"All righty." They stepped outside to the weyrplateu. Rigella let go of her support. She took few deep breaths and looked up. "Sho pretty," she sighed. It was cloudless night and the stars were out in all their glory. Watching them made her dizzy. She spread her hands and started to
spin around. "Look, I'm falling into the sky!" It ended suddenly and she found out she was now sitting in snow. "Or not." She threw up.
"Oh shards..." Birigundi wondered just how on Pern _he_ got stuck with her! "All right, Rigella." He took up a handful of clean looking snow.
"Here let this melt in your mouth, swish it around a bit and spit it out. Right on the pile with the rest of it should be fine."
Rigella did as he told and got up unsteadily. "Maybe I should go to sleep off thish," she said with a weak voice. She started to stagger towards the entrance.
"I think that might be a good idea." He wrapped an arm around Rigella to steady her. If he could get her home and in bed, he just might still have time to get back to the party before all the semi-sober ladies had disappeared.
