Aini squinted against the bright light as she emerged from below. It
took a moment for her eyes to adjust and she paused before she moved
further into the deck. The ship eased into the dock. "We're here."
She called back. She didn't need to look to know that the others were
behind her.
Kaphrad joined her and set his hands on his hips, looking out at their
new home.
Relik took a look from the aft deck, before making his way down.
After the gangplank was thrown, he took his time. The Master had already
been here and surveyed his domain. Now, he let the others go first. "Go
on and see what you can see." The deckhands would get their luggage out
of respect for the seacrafters.
"Perhaps you'd like to give us a tour?" Aini suggested to the Master
with one hand sweeping over the area. "Since you are more familiar
with the area?"
"Aye, that sounds like a good idea." Kaphrad agreed. He'd go on his
own ramble soon enough.
"Well...I suppose..." Talked into it, Relik found himself leading
up his little group. "As we come up here, see the buildings they're
working on? Some are finished, some are not. That's the main building and
then living quarters will be there with the watchtower there and we'll have
a wood cave back there." He kept pointing around, shuffling here and
there in the sunshine.
"Is the cave big enough?" Kaphrad asked.
"Not at present time, but they're going to expand it with some
excavating." Relik knew that wasn't his business. That was smith
business.
"Is there an estimate of the time it will take till completion?" Aini
had to admit it was interesting, seeing everything in the middle of
building rather than already erected.
"The cave or everything?" he asked, wanting to be sure of her question.
"Both." Came the answer and a smile ticked at Aini's lips.
"For the Hall proper, several months. Luckily we had some already existing
buildings to convert. Then there are a few things I would like to see done
besides that which will be necessary to our shipbuilding operations and other work.
The cave...blasting is easy, so I'd say maybe two sevendays for that."
Relik didn't know how many men Morin had working on things, though. That
was a big factor.
"Excellent," Kaphrad said. He wanted to make sure they started off
with a proper wood cave so they could begin shipbuilding as soon as
possible.
"Not as long as I expected."? Aini nodded as if making a mental note.
"Of course, it will take some time after that is completed to get
settled, but we'll manage."
"Now it's been a long trip. I think we should all go get settled and we'll
have evening meal aboard ship tonight since Aini and her folk will need
to get that bit straightened out." Relik was relishing a long, uninterrupted
sleep.
Kaphrad nodded and looked around. So, this was their new home.
"Sounds like a good idea. I want to write a letter of introduction
to the Hold's headwoman and set up a meeting with her." Plus there
were other things that Aini wanted to take care of.
