She was hurrying through the halls as fast as her very large body could
take her. Parale had never been this big in her life and it was
disconcerting sometimes when she had to make adjustments to her balance,
but she managed. Finally reaching the harper's office, she stopped a moment to
look down at her swollen feet. Sighing, she knocked on the door and wondered
just what this would be.
The harper, Desmus, had met Parale before, but his eyes did widen at the
size her belly had grown to since the last time he had met her.
"Thank you for coming," the journeyman said, backing into the
room to pull a chair out for her to sit in.
She eagerly took the seat, waiting for her breathing to settle before
crossing her arms over her chest. Parale's legs didn't quite cross
anymore really, but she tried to keep them as together as possible. The
dress she was wearing today was really just a shapeless sack to cover
her for the most part. It helped to keep her cool too. "Afternoon harper,"
she responded, wondering again why he'd asked her here. Was Syren
having trouble?
"Good afternoon," he greeted. "Thank you for making the trip down
here." And in her condition. "I just wanted to speak with you about a
few concerns I have regarding your daughter, Venrys."
"Venrys?" That couldn't be! Venrys was smart and quick and didn't have
problems. Parale looked slightly confused, but was prepared to listen.
"What sorts of concerns?"
He could understand her surprise. It hadn't been anything he would have
expected, either. "Well, she seems to have a short temper lately,
getting angry over little things. Blowing things out of proportion.
And even more recently, it almost seems like she's lashing out at people
for no reason at all. It's starting to really effect her relationship
with the other students." Desmus knew there were a lot of changes in
the little girl's life, and he could only assume that was the cause.
"How is she taking your pregnancy?"
Quiet as she digested this, Parale's eyes went to her hands then back to
the harper. "It's not the pregnancy. She's a bit confused about something else."
Ioven and Parale's relationship was none of the harper's business,
so she wasn't going to offer up any more information. She was going to have
another talk with Venrys, however. If that didn't work, it was time
to make her husband face reality instead of just ignoring the big feline
in the room.
The Harper, however, was left in the dark, and so he gently pressed for
more details. "Something else?"
"We've had other changes in the family and the girls are getting used to
them. We've spoken about it-she and I-but I guess that wasn't enough.
So she just seems angry then?" Sighing, Parale felt the baby moving
around a bit. It must have woken up. Adjusting herself on the seat, she hoped that
she'd be able to make it back to her quarters without any issues.
"Well, she's more withdrawn than I've ever seen her, and her attention
is slipping. But it's all coming from the same source. The anger is a
definite distraction, and it's hard to be social when you're annoyed
with people, and they with you." Hopefully this would be just a
temporary change that they could all help her through, but Desmus had
been a teacher long enough to know that some children had a lot of
trouble pulling out of such a self-destructive pattern. "Madam, if
there is anything I should know about what's going on..."
"No, we'll get it sorted out. She's just a confused little girl right
now going through some life changes. Of course it probably doesn't help that
she's been helping out a lot too." Parale depended upon Venrys so this sort of
behavior was disturbing in many ways. If she would act out in class, then
she would do so at home.
**Parents and their sharding pride...** Desmus thought with a sigh. She
was giving him nothing to work with. He spent almost as much time with
her daughter throughout the day as either of her parents did. He was
the one who would have to deal with her behavior towards those outside
her family. Without being kept informed of what was truly going on in
Venrys' life, he could offer her no guidance, no understanding. Rather
than help her through, all he could do was scold her when she acted out
and hope that somehow the little girl would find some way to tell him on
her own what was really going on. Experience told him the chances of
that happening were rather slim. But he couldn't make this woman tell
him anything, and so he was just as much in the dark as when she walked
through the door. So it usually was, unfortunately. "Well, then, if
there's anything I can do, please let me know." He doubted she would,
though.
"I thank you for your concern, harper. I promise her father and I will get
this straight." Inside, her mind was remembering the hurt little girl and she
didn't like her little family having problems. Her baby would enter this world into
a good family if it killed her. Sighing, she began the laborious process of
getting back up. This was a three-part affair, all of which took a bit of
time.
