This is a bit late, I know

Traelyn couldn't wait until a month passed when she would finally know everything - and everyone - better. Her Weyrwoman at Far Island had said that the transition _into_ the Weyr would be the most difficult for her. But once one or two months passed, things would become much more easier. Or so Traelyn had been told. But so far, the transitioning wasn't as bad as she thought it woud be. After all, brownrider J'klin had been very helpful - and he hadn't been the only helpful or friendly one.

The young woman paused in front of the Weyrleader's door and gazed at the intricate woodwork before she knocked twice.

"It's open." D'wrayt called as he was searching through the filing system for a previous report from one of the wings to see if he was just imagining the strange similarity between the two. Most reports were similair, but this one made him feel as if he had already read about it for some reason.

When he heard the door shut, he turned around to see the new Weyrwoman Second entering the office. "So you must be Traelyn. Nyith told me that you'd be stopping by today. I hope you didn't get too lost on your way. Come have a seat, would you care for some juice or klah?" he said putting the file that he needed on top and gesturing to the little table that had the refreshments on it.

"Actually, klah sounds great, thank you, Weyrleader," she replied with a smile as she took the offered seat.

He nodded and poured them both a mug. He handed one to her and then made himself comfortable in the chair across from her. He didn't know much about the goldrider aside from her name and where she transfered from. "Have you been to Dragonsfall before?" he asked curiously.

She shook her head after she took a sip of the hot drink. "I've never been anywhere but Far Island, Weyrleader."

"Please, call me D'wrayt. I was born and raised here, so if you have any questions I can answer them fairly well."

She smiled at him. "Jaela has already answered most of the questions that I had... But I'm sure I'll think of some more while I'm here today."

"If you do, just have Nyith ask me. I've gotten used to having questions posed through the dragons. It saves time and makes me more available than most Weyrleaders. Is the weather a big change for you?" he always liked to know about weather in other parts of Pern. He wanted to travel the world someday and see all there was to see, but it would have to wait until the Pass was over now.

**That's right... He can speak to any dragon...** Trae thought. **Certainly makes things very convenient!** "The weather is not as harsh here as it is at Far Island," she told him with a smile. "And I'm very grateful for that!"

"It's not too bad here as long as we don't get a blizzard." he said with a chuckle.

She shivered at the very thought. "I've experienced those. Not the most pleasant of things. But I'm sure summer and spring are nice here?"

"Spring is nice and summer is well hot. Good time to be in the water, though."

"I can imagine," she smiled, taking another sip of klah.

"Do you have any family with you?" he asked curiously. It was nice to know something about the lives of those you worked with closely.

Traelyn shook her head. "My Papa, Mama and all my siblings are at Far Island." The expression in her eyes was a little sad. She had been very close to them and to her father especially.

"At least they're only a dragonride away. That must make it a tiny bit easier." he said with a small grin. He must have brought up a sore subject for her. It was something he tended to do without even realizing it when making conversation with someone he didn't know very well.

She blinked and gave him a reassuring smile. "It does, Weyrleader. We dragonriders are luckier than most when it comes to traveling."

"That we are." D'wrayt agreed. He was going to enjoy working with the goldrider.
