Description: P'nal comes in from the cold and runs into Devyn.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 6, day 11 of Turn 6
He shook the snow from his jacket as he came in and sat down in front
of the fire. A woman came by and gave him a cup of klah. "Thanks," he
said before sipping. P'nal was used to the harsh weather of Dragonsfall
but he still liked being warm.
"I'm all for helping a fellow dragonrider warm up." Devyn said with a
wink as she took a seat beside Azure's Wingsecond. The snow was a
source of delight for Devyn, it was one of the reasons she preferred
living at Dragonsfall and not one of the other, warmer, Weyrs such as
River Bluff. Ellyth as well seemed to have a fondness for the cold
stuff, and was actually out at her usual place- the Weyr Lake-, and
was lounging on her ledge watching the snowfall.
"You get used to it but it's still nice to come inside and warm your
bones. Really awful when you get yourself stuck in your weyr when
we have a blizzard." Fortunately his promotion meant one of the weyrs
with access so he wasn't in bad shape like the others.
The greenrider lifted her shoulders in a shrug, "I'm sure Ellyth
wouldn't mind tunneling out a path for me when it gets too snowy."
Devyn found the powdery stuff delightful, especially since it meant
that if it was snowing it was too cold for Thread which would fall in
harmless ashes.
"You can tunnel certainly. Problem is, half the time you can't even see
when it gets like that. I'd be afraid someone would get lost. My advice is
to keep some stock in your weyr in case. Not like it would go bad if you
left it near the ledge." P'nal told all of his riders to do that. It was easier
than worrying about food or for them to try and get food to them.
Apparently P'nal just didn't understand how much Devyn loved snow and
the idea of being snowed in was an adventurous one for her. Especially
if she could could get snowed in with someone like... oh say, the
Weyrlingmaster J'darin. A good looking man plus being snowed in seemed
like a profitable equation in Devyn's eyes.
"How long do you think this snowy weather will last?" Devyn asked as
she glanced back towards the opening of the Dining Cavern where she
could still see lazy white flakes floating down outside.
"Till spring I suppose, just as it does every turn. It means less falls to fly,
though, so I'm all for it." P'nal didn't like being outside in the snow, but it
meant less death except for those that froze.
Devyn chuckled, she hadn't meant the wintry season, she'd meant the
current snow that they were having. Surely it wouldn't snow nonstop
until the spring. She'd lived at Dragonsfall for seven Turns and
couldn't remember a winter ever being _that_ bad. But then again,
being someone who enjoyed the cold Devyn supposed her memory could
have been skewed.
"At least it's a nice break from Thread."
"Indeed. Makes it hard to get out and exercise though. We also tend to
eat heartier in the winter. So when spring comes, you'll see a lot of
heavier riders trying to get out and run." He had to admit, he did
worse during the winter, as well.
Luckily Devyn never found herself in that situation. At the current
point in her life the greenrider found herself able to stay naturally
pretty slim, although she'd yet to have any children so she was sure
that her naturally slim body was likely to change at any time. "I'm
betting as well that all of this snow gives people cabin fever."
"It does, along with the darkness. Which is why about 9 months after
the end of winter we have quite a few new babies." P'nal smiled as he
thought about it. It was rather obvious, of course.
Devyn laughed out loud at that observation, "You're right! I'd never
really considered that before but you're absolutely right. There are
definitely more birthings during that time of the year."
"Well I better get on but it was good passing time with you. Glad to know
someone is enjoying this weather." He smiled and tipped his mug to her
before heading off down the tunnels.
Giving a wave to P'nal, Devyn settled back into her chair and looked
into the fire. Yes, she loved the winter and all that went with it.
