Description: Devyn is accosted by a Killer, and Hygalia comes to the rescue
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 5, day 15 of Turn 6
Devyn stretched her arms high above her head, twisting her back and
letting out a sigh of pleasure as her muscles pulled and stretched.
She'd been sitting by the Weyrlake for most of the day, mostly because
Ellyth was in one of her "moods" and had insisted on a nice long soak
in the water. Devyn wasn't sure when the soak would end but after
seven Turns of being Ellyth's lifemate she was pretty good at humoring
the green when she took these strange notions.
Peeking one eye open, Devyn scanned the Weyrlake for Ellyth and found
the green in the middle of the lake, sunk into the water until only
her whirling eyes could be seen. With a sigh and a shake of her head,
Devyn closed her eyes and tried to get comfortable once more. **You'll
never get a bronze dragon to chase you acting like that.** She told
her green, smiling when Ellyth didn't reply back but only sent her an
annoyed feeling.
Fuzzy. Something fuzzy was snuggling her leg. Peeking her eyes open
once again, Devyn noted a small, fuzzy feline that was a dusty color
of grey.
"And what have we here?" Devyn questioned, even as the feline took a
swat at the dangling laces on her boots.
"Oh, for Faranth's sake, Killer," a voice said from behind the
greenrider. "How am I ever going to get it through to you that the
Weyrlake is not your personal latrine?"
When Hygalia's voice registered in Devyn's brain the greenrider bolted
up into a standing position, "Weyrwoman Hygalia," she inclined her
head in a respectful bow, "I take it this little ball of fur is
yours?"
"Ball of fur?" Hygalia asked, looking at the little monster sternly.
"It's a menace to the Weyr is what he is. Making me chase him all down
the beach when I _could_ be relaxing in my time off. Do you have any
idea how important I am, fur ball?" The Weyrwoman sighed and looked
back at the greenrider with a slight shrug. "He doesn't look very
impressed, does he."
Devyn laughed a little, relaxing around the Weyrwoman, "No, he doesn't
appear to be taking you very seriously at all. Maybe if you threaten
him with something, like brushing his fur, he'd acquiesce." The
greenrider looked down at the feline and considered him for a moment,
"Or perhaps bribery would be a better method."
"I've offered him all the marks I have. He just doesn't seem
interested." Before the feline's attention could wander elsewhere, the
Weyrwoman scooped him up. "Now now, no protesting. You did wrong and
you know it." Turning once more to the greenrider, she nodded to the
feline sized cargo case behind her. "Would you mind opening that for
me?"
"Oh, sure." Devyn noticed the case for the first time, thinking it a
smart way to cart the creature around, especially since Killer seemed
intent on going wherever he wanted anyway. Crouching by the case,
Devyn unlatched the top of it and flipped the lid back, "Does he take
well to his case or should I steer clear while you put him in?"
"He generally takes well to just about everything. He'll meow a little,
but he'll be as pliant as a floppy stuffed toy. He's used to the
carrying case and once in he'll curl up and sleep as if it had been his
idea all along." She was at least lucky about that. Over all, despite
his disappearing tricks, Killer was actually the perfect feline in the
Weyrwoman's eyes.
"Well, that makes me feel better about holding this case for you
then." Devyn laughed as she picked up the carrying case, opened the
lid, and held it out so that the Weyrwoman could place the feline
inside. The greenrider had never had a pet before, she'd gone from the
harper craft into dragonriding with never a moment to spare.
"Yes, I chose the name 'Killer' more for the irony factor than anything
else." The feline looked almost limp as the Weyrwoman carefully dropped
him in feet first through the hole. "And see, this way he knows he
doesn't have to walk all that way back. He has his human to carry him,
the lazy little beast."
Devyn handed the basket to the Weyrwoman now that the feline was
safely put away, "You know, Ellynth says practically the same thing to
me whenever I'm in the weyrbowl and want a ride up to the weyr." She
grinned.
"She calls you a lazy little beast?" Hygalia asked, her eyes sparkling
with amusement at the image. **You would never call me a lazy beast,
would you Genith?** she asked her lifemate teasingly.
}:I wish you were lazy. Do you know that some dragons are laying out on
a warm sandy beach right now?:{ the gold whined. }:Why can't we do
that?:{
Devyn laughed a little before casting a glance over her shoulder at
her dragon in the water, "Well, she doesn't say it in quite so many
words but if I pry her from her water before she's ready there's a lot
of huffing and grumbling going on. Unless, of course, there's a bronze
dragon involved, then she's out of the water faster than you can snap
your fingers."
"Nothing can get a girl move faster than a little flash of metal,"
Hygalia conceded. And visa versa in her experience. "And what about
you? Do you share your lifemate's preferences?"
The greenrider lifted her shoulders, "Not really. Growing up I had
mostly guy friends anyway so I'm use to hanging out with them all. As
long as they've got a sense of humor and they're easy on the eyes I'm
interested." Devyn laughed.
"That must make Flights easier," Hygalia smiled. "Do you have anyone
special at the Weyr?" THe goldrider tried to keep up on the latest
gossip, but it was a little hard to keep track of _everyone_.
Devyn shook her head, "Oh no, no one serious in my life. There are far
too many good looking, charming men around the Weyr to be tied up with
one just yet." There was a whimsical smile on the greenrider's face.
"And you should try on as many as you like." Though it had never been
Hygalia's style, she had accepted the freedom of the Weyr and enjoyed
hearing about other's exploits. "I do have to say, this Weyr does offer
a lady a pretty nice view just about everywhere you look."
"Indeed it does." Devyn said, even as her eyes latched onto a passing
brownrider. With a sigh the greenrider glanced back out at the
Weyrlake where her dragon was still submerged, "Well, milady, it was
very nice talking with you, but I'd better go coax Ellyth out of the
water so I can get her oiled before dark."
"You're lucky your green is so small. It would take half the candidates
in the Weyr to get Genish oiled in so short a time," Hygalia said with
an oppressed sigh, but a large smile. "Thank you for your help with
this little monster," she said with a nod towards her carrying cage.
"No problem at all," Devyn flashed the Weyrwoman a smile, "have a good
night." She said as she took a step backwards and then spun and began
walking towards Ellyth who had sloshed her way up out of the Weyrlake
ready for her oiling.
