Moving On Up

Writers: Chelle, Eimi
Date Posted: 4th August 2011

Characters: Parale, Ioven
Description: The two of them choose their new place.
Location: Sunstone Seahold
Date: month 11, day 24 of Turn 5

They had a list of available quarters to look at. Just because
they decided on something didn't mean their request would be granted,
but Parale was hopeful. She'd sweeten the deal with a few dyed
camisoles if need be.

So Parale had gotten the list from the Headwoman's assistant and
made arrangements while the girls were in lessons for she and Ioven
to go look.

Ioven was rather disinterested in the whole process. He had promised
that Parale would be mistress of the household, so that in his mind
would include deciding where they lived. As long as his girls had
adequate room to play in, he figured she could pick something out far
better than he could. But she had seemed to want him there, and so he
had taken time off to wander around the Hold and play house. "Where are
we starting off at?"

"Here." She pointed. And that was the real reason she wanted him there.
She was more than likely to get herself lost and not even finish looking
at the places. Once they reached the first set of rooms, she stepped
inside to look around.

He glanced around, nodding. It looked like a set of rooms to him, for
sure. "So, what do you think?"

"That room isn't even big enough. It'll be the same situation by the
time you get the bed in there." She was sure his smith's eye would
detect that. He peeked in, nodding. She was probably right. Well, that
was easy! "So it's a no?"

"Mmm, next." She headed out to follow him wherever that might be. They
continued on this way for sometime until it was about the fourth one.
Parale walked inside, saw the windows, the space, and her eyes widened.

"You sure this one's on the list?" he asked, for the first time
impressed with what he saw.

"Mmm..right here. I like it.. Do you think we should hurry to get it
before someone else does?" Concern shown in her eyes. "Or might there be
something better?" Indecision came next.

He took the list from her and scanned it. Yes, it did say this one was
available to them. "Huh... Well... Does this one have everything you
want?"

"There's a fully equipped kitchen, a workspace, bedchambers of a good
size, and I love the view. Of course, the floor will mean we'll have
longer to get to the main floor, but that's fine. The bathing area
wasn't too far." She looked at the living chamber, where they would do
most of
their family activities. Parale could do a lot with it.

He looked back down at the paper. "How many bedrooms was that?"

"There were three, though the other two were smaller. Put together,
they'd probably be the same size as the one the girls have now." She
pulled his arm, taking him inside there to see what she meant.

"Well, that's not so much bigger than the room we have now," he said
with a frown, though he followed her in.

"Right but the girls don't need much bigger. When they're old enough to
have things to take up the space you'll have master knots and can maybe
get us some bigger quarters anyway." She shrugged, thinking it would do
for a long time. "But see how much bigger the master room is?" Pulling
him again, she brought him into what would be their bedroom.

It was a good size, and could hold all of their stuff and then some.
Maybe he could even have a little desk in the corner by the window...
"But
will one of those rooms fit both girls with their stuff and give them
space to play?"

"It can, with some creative arranging. Have you ever seen hanging nets
to hold toys? I have." This was a seahold so there was probably no
shortage of netting.

He had to admit, they probably wouldn't be able to find much better than
this one. Not without leaving the Hold and living in a cot around the
base. There would be a bit more space for the girls to play in the
living area at least. "And this room would be enough for you?"

"Plenty. I plan on going through my things anyway. All the clothes that
were made for colder weather are either going to modified or I'll have
to change them to fit the girls or something.." she muttered, thinking.

"Yes, but you'll be getting new ones," he pointed out. Ioven had
already planned on that fact. "So really, it will be about the same
amount, right?"

"I don't need that many new clothes. We can use that money for something
more important." She thought of a few possibilities that might crop up
later.

"As you like," he shrugged. Promises to provide had been made, but it
was up to her just how much it would take to fulfill that vow. "So...
Where would the bed go?"

"I think.." She walked into the space and stopped, spreading her arms.
"The bed here, with the chest at the foot and then the wardrobes-one
for each of us-there."

Hmmm... Chest... "So, which side of the bed will be yours then?" he
asked, taking a couple lazy steps towards her. She had been wearing
shorter skirts lately. It hadn't escaped Ioven's notice. He liked that
bit more skin that drew his eye when they were alone.

"The same as now. I like the side farthest from the door. That way when
you come in late at night there's less walking around." She looked down
at the floor and then the walls. "Maybe someday I can get some nice
tapestries for the walls."

"Yes, but if I wake you up, I'd just have to apologize, is all," he said
with a very suggestive smile as he stepped so close he could smell the
sweetsand on her skin. "You might not mind so much."

She sighed. "That's why I have the side where I have to wake you up in
the morning. That way you're rested...." She put her arms on his hips
behind her. "We need to go to the beach on the next restday. I'm curious
about it."

"All right," he murmured into her ear as he accepted her invitation for
closeness. His arms wrapped around her middle as he pulled her back
against himself. "I'll find out about the tides."

"Well let's go tell them this is it then and maybe we can...get in some
time before the girls are done." Once the girls were out of lessons,
Parale would put them to work helping her move the things they could.

"Why don't we get in some time now and tell them later? We can pick up
the girls and show them before we make the decision final." And that
way they didn't have to rush anything unless they wanted to.

"That sounds good," she agreed, turning around to him.
