"She's stubborn enough to play down something as not that serious, too.
She's never had problems before, but maybe this time she didn't know it." D'wrayt said remembering the last time she had been sick for a few days. He knew that she went /between/ regularly and to be in bed like that meant that she must have rid herself of a pregnancy, but he never let on that he suspected anything. It was easier that way for them all. "Surely if there were something wrong with her _someone_ would have known." **At least one of _us_ would have known...** "You know she never eats right. Maybe it's just finally caught up with her. A couple days rest and she will be all right." She had to be. She just _had_ to be. There was no gold but hers at the Weyr. They couldn't lose her.
_U'kaiah_ couldn't lose her. Not now. Not so soon...
"We must believe that she will be allright and take care of Calyth until Jaela can do it for herself." D'wrayt replied doing his best to sound like he believed what he was saying. He had seen so many people die in Threadfall and the epidemic that had stolen his weyrmate and unborn child that he knew that there was always a possibility that he could be wrong. Life was so fragile that he needed to cherish every moment and not let it pass him by. At least he had told Jaela that he loved her and knew that she cared for him in some way.
U'kaiah had no such assurances as he nodded solemn agreement. Their romance had so recently blossomed after months of doubt, anger, and frustration. They had fun together, but did Jaela know that it was _more_ than just fun for him? Was it something more for her too? He hoped to Faranth that he would have the chance to ask her someday.
D'wrayt seemed sure. That was enough. He would believe in the wisdom of his Weyrleader and the unyielding strength of the Weyrwoman as he always had. "Thank you, D'wrayt. I know you're right."
