Notes: 1 of 2
D'wrayt waited in the infirmary pacing the room. She was so stubborn sometimes, but he adored her just the way she was. He knew that she must have lost a lot of blood and that it was something more than her monthly cycle to have caused her to fall like that. The healers were assessing her condition and had shooed the Weyrleader out to the waiting area.
Calyth had stopped bellowing and was being comforted by her mate. Soon the news would spread throughout the Weyr that their Weyrwoman was not well, but there were some riders that he wanted to tell himself.
**Kalamath, Can you ask U'kaiah to meet me in the infirmary? It's about Jaela.** he said knowing that the Cyan Wingleader was rather fond the weyrwoman. He didn't know much at the moment, but having someone to worry with was a much better alternative than worrying alone.
"D'wrayt, what's happened?" the bronzerider asked, trying not to let the fear that chilled his heart show in his voice.
"She's bleeding somehow...we were supposed to have dinner....she didn't show up.....I went looking....and she was on the floor. The healers are with her now. I'm sure you heard Calyth earlier." he said in a rush before pausing for a breath. If he didn't keep it together, then what sort of leader was he? He had to stay calm and not think about her still body in the next room. She had to be okay, she was his weyrwoman and he didn't know what he would do without her.
U'kaiah could say nothing. His stomach was turning into knots. Jaela?
Bleeding? How could this happen? "But she will be all right... won't she?" He search the Weyrleader's eyes, desperate for some hope in them.
"Won't she, D'wrayt?"
"I hope so, for the sake of the Weyr, I sincerely hope so." he replied understanding exactly how the younger wingleader was feeling. He was not prepared to lose another mate and would do everything in his power to make sure she made it through the night.
The wingleader pushed his fear deep down, refusing to let it show again.
She would be all right. She had to be. She was _Jaela_. Jaela was stronger than this. The Weyrwoman had seen him through his brush with death. She would make it through. U'kaiah's eyes hardened with his resolve to believe that the woman he cared for would come through this.
"Jaela will be all right, D'wrayt. She is the strongest woman I have ever known. She is too stubborn to not come through this."
