No big issues

Writers: Chelle, Paula

Characters: Sh'lua, P'nal
Description: Sh'lua gets his annual evaluation done.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 1, day 2 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: Demalia, G'nir

The brownrider finished off the lunch he'd gotten brought. He was working
through break to get his evaluation hides in order. He'd give them to
G'nir to review and they'd both discuss their notes and observations in
order to better the wing.

Sh'lua knocked on the office door. He was pretty sure what it was about,
since it was very beginning of the Turn and he had been a rider for a long
time. Things weren't handled so much differently here than at Dolphin Cove
Weyr.

"Come in and have a seat," came P'nal's answer as he sipped his klah.

"Hello, P'nal. You wanted to see me," Sh'lua said, entering the office and
pulling himself the chair.
He was relaxed and confident.

"Aye, it's time for your evaluation. Before we start, is there anything you
wanted to talk about or mention?" The brownrider got his notes ready.

"Nope," Sh'lua said, "I'm settled in well."

"Good. That's very important." P'nal checked his notes. "So we're going to
talk about things and where we stand and where we can go from here. If you
have any questions or something to say, stop me at anytime."

"All right," the bluerider nodded.

"Before I go into my stuff, is there anything you wanted to bring up or ask
about?" He looked down at his notes, trying to think about his next sentence.

"No, I haven't," Sh'lua replied. He didn't have any issues with anyone and
being an experienced rider he had no trouble adjusting to Dragonsfall's
drills.

"Your Search record is good as well as your attendance. You perform in
drills.... What I want to know is how could I help you to be a better
rider, Sh'lua? Are there any areas you'd like to work on?" P'nal
saw that his personal record was pretty average.

"Well, Galerith is strong for a blue but he relies on that strength a bit
too much," Sh'lua started thoughtfully.
"I've tried to develop his speed and agility. He has a bad habit of just
blundering ahead. And since we are new in the wing, he's got few
grumblings from his wingmates. So, we need to practice more of our
coordination
and cooperation," Sh'lua continued.

"All good things. I've been doing some extra drills with Demalia to focus on
some of those same things.
I'd like it if you joined in." He put that to him as a suggestion, but it
wasn't really.

"Sounds good, especially since there's a pretty green involved," Sh'lua
replied.

P'nal nodded and wrote him down on the schedule. "Allright, that's the area
we will work on for now. You'll report in after a month or so of that and
let me know how it's going." More scribbling followed. "And maybe
that'll help you become more familiar with your wingmates."

Sh'lua just nodded and took the schedule. "Should work out as long as there
aren't eggs on the Sands."

"Of course we'll adjust your schedule accordingly, but for now sweeps will
remain the same." He thought about it for a moment.

Sh'lua nodded again.

"So what differences have you noticed between things here and Dolphin Cove?"
P'nal was curious about how they did things at the other Weyr.

"Well, the main difference is since Dolphin Cove hasn't had full wings for
such a long time, they had adjusted their Thread fighting tactics
according to that. It makes a whole lot of difference if you have full
wings or not.
You have to be more flexible and quicker to adjust if the wing is
shorthanded. In the worst case, you have to switch the wing formation a
few times in a Fall," Sh'lua told him.

"Tests your endurance, doesn't it? We had issues with that during the
beginning of the Pass when we lost so many. Had to do a lot of
chop-and-change then." P'nal thought about that and remembered those
days.

"Yeah, and they are still doing it. It is quite taxing," Sh'lua agreed.

"I would say so, though it probably makes you a lot more aware of what's
going on around you when you don't have as much coverage." Considering
that, he remembered those days before changing the subject. "I think
you'll be a great addition to our wing once you find your stride. Know that
you can always come to me when you have a question, an issue with another
rider, or even if you just want to discuss tactics." P'nal wrote down some
of his closing observations.

"Yes, sirree," Sh'lua replied with an easygoing smile. Although he seemed
light-hearted, he was taking his duties seriously. He would think about
this discussion seriously in the privacy of his own weyr. He was always
willing to learn new things.
